PRAYER HELPS
“HOW TO PRAY A MINUTE” by Barbara Bartocci
Do you find your self saying, “I’d like to pray more but I don’t have time” or “I’m so busy, I can’t think about God daily”? Barbara Bartocci recommends
, 2011 some tips for one-minute spirituality. Each week we will feature one of her tips.
Remember the god-holder prayer.
Especially when someone acts rudely or meanly, it helps temper our response to remember that God is in each person.
Like candleholders, each of us holds the
Light (even if temporarily we hide it under a bushel.
Dear Friends:
“If you choose…” is one of a number of phrases which may jump out you as you hear this weekend’s readings proclaimed. The verse reads, “If you choose you can keep the commandments, they will save you.” The next verse which completes the strophe from this passage from the Book of Sirach likewise encourages the follower, most likely an observant Jew, that trusting in the Lord will also grant life. Another verse ends our Gospel passage from Matthew, “Let your ‘Yes’ mean
‘Yes,’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No,’ warns us of the dangers of being lukewarm disciples of our
Lord Jesus Christ. Our turn toward God in love is lived out in our love for others. Paul writes in his First Letter to the Corinthians that true wisdom is from God and that it is the Spirit who helps us to discern this wisdom. The Spirit as
Paul later writes animates the community of faith and also provides its very core or heart.
The Spirit is the One who defines the community of faith as a community of love. On our part, our baptism calls us to choose to follow this Spirit of love, passionately, resolutely, and whole-heartedly. The Lord does not appreciate half-hearted disciples.

Call to Ministry Prayer
Lord God, You alone are the source of every good gift, of the vast array of our universe, and the mystery of each human life.
We praise You and we thank You for Your great power and Your tender faithful love.
Everything we are and everything we have is your gift, and after having created us, you have given us into the keeping of your son, Jesus Christ.
Fill our minds with His truth and our hearts with His love, that in His spirit we may be bonded together in a community of faith, a parish family, a caring people.
In the name and spirit of Jesus, we commit ourselves to be good stewards of the gifts entrusted to us, to share in our time, our talent and our material gifts as an outward sign of the treasure we hold in Jesus.
Amen.
