Dear Friends:
Estimados amigos:
Perhaps it is not coincidental that today’s
focus on Jesus as the Good Shepherd
falls this year on Mother’s Day. In today’s
passage from the Gospel of John, Jesus
refers to himself as the sheep gate, which
one might assume is the passageway
through which all sheep must travel.
Jesus is that gate through whom all must
travel in order to attain eternal life. In a
sense, a mother can be described as a
type of gate through which we travel from
infancy to adulthood. My mother made
sure that we were all well-fed and was
available to help us with problems. She
helped us with our homework, nursed us
when we were sick and drove us
everywhere. Like the good shepherd, she
truly cares for us. As we take a moment to
reflect upon our mothers, both living and
dead, let us give thanks to the Lord who
gave us this wonderful gift of life and love
to assist us on the journey to the Kingdom
of God.
Dios.
With peace and joy!
¡Con paz y alegría!

YOUTH MINISTRY
Important things
happening with Youth
Ministry!
2) We now have
"spiritual guidance" for
7th and 8th graders every Tuesday from 2:45 4:30pm. The kids will hang out/talk with Dan about
spiritual things and typical middle school issues for
the first 45 minutes, and have free pizza/soda and
socialize for the remainder of the time! All youth in
7th/8th grade are encouraged to come.
3) We have started a new Catholic after school club
at St. Joseph High School called "The Rock"!
Contact Dan Palmieri
(YouthMinisterDan@gmail.com) for more info.
SOCIAL JUSTICE MINISTRY
As a result of your generosity, Covenant House in
Atlantic City received 60 shoeboxes filled with
personal care items. In addition to the items,
disposable diapers were also included. Although
the number of items is less this year as compared
to other years, Covenant House is quite
appreciative of the donations.
We are sad to report that one of the black
containers placed in the lobby at St. Joseph’s
Church is missing. If you “borrowed it” kindly return
it so that it can be used for the next collection.
Thank you for continuing to support the mission of
Covenant House.
May is the month, which the
piety of the faithful dedicates
to Mary. The Church honors
her as the Mother of God,
looks to her as a model of
perfect discipleship, and asks for her prayers to
God on our behalf.
Today, Sunday, May 11th is World Day of
Prayer for Vocations. The purpose of the
World Day of Prayer for Vocations is to
publically fulfill the Lord's instruction to, "Pray
the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his
harvest" . The Church concentrates its
attention this day on vocations to the ordained
ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the
Religious life (male and female, contemplative
and apostolic), to societies of apostolic life, to
secular institutes in their diversity of services
and membership, and to the missionary life.
