TM05Base / TMBase Festival The best electronic music festival in Romania is upon us again, the TM05Base Urban Sound Culture festival is due between the 20th and 22nd of October 2005 gathering some of the best international names and most relevant national contenders from the electronic, dance and urban music scene. Unique in vibe and mentality, the festival features a wide variety of genres from hip-hop to funk and breakbeats to techno and drumandbass. The 3 day event takes off with one warmup night in one of Timisoara's clubs then moving on to the main days set inside the warehouses on Divizia 9 Cavalerie Street behind Kappa Comercial Complex near Iulius Mall. The lineup is offcourse solid, this years edition featuring renowned names from the international scene with the likes of: drum and bass legends MC Navigator (Rawhill Cru) and Doc Scott (31 Records, Metalheadz), techno top names Technasia (Paris, FRSINO), DMC team champions 2004 Coups 2 Cross, experimental audio and visual german trio Rechenzentrumvs SchneiderTM , breakbeats finest Chris Carter (TCR, Botchit and Scarper), hungarian Fine Cut Bodies (Chi Recordings), canadian glitch-pop group Bleep, hiphop and drumandbass wonderkid JFB and 4 more top headliners waiting to be announced, together with names from the national scene. Celebrating oldschool drum and bass, TMBase and British Council Romania bring you one of its founders. Doc Scott Navigator MC (31Records, Metalheadz) (Rawhill Cru) Legendary drum and bass soldier and Metalheadz cofounder alongside Goldie back in 1994, Doc Scott put the drum and bass scene in motion. He started mixing during the late 80s when rave was big, his style was much darker, adding influences from hiphop, jungle and Detroit techno, all very characteristic for the early 90s. These roots are more evident in his earlier productions - "As Nasty as I wanna Be" (1992), an oldschool drumandbass classic as well as the famous "Here Come the Drums". Rawhill Cru's finest Navigator MC has been responsible for much mayhem in the drum and bass scene teaming up with a wide selection of huge names. With more than a decade of experience to benefit him passing through hardcore, reggae, jungle and drum and bass, MC Navigator is as big a name as they et. After leaving Reinforced, he teamed up with Goldie and founded the legendary Metalheadz, soon to be most famous label in drum and bass. Among his early releases are "Vip Drums" and "Far Away". He's also been working on LTJ Bukem's label, Good Looking Records This year he will be MC-ing along side oldschool legend Doc Scott onstage at the TM05Base festival due to the support from the British Council Romania. Noisia (Vision, Moving Shadow, Subtitles) Noisia DJ, producer and member Martijn van Sonderen. Technasia (Paris, FR-SINO) Infamous drumandbass trio Noisia, formed back in 1998, is made up of Nik Roos, Thijs de Vlieger and Martijn van Sonderen.They met up thanks to a small graffiti community and were soon joined by Martijn who was producing hip-hop and studied classic piano. Having just launched their very own Vision Label their tracks have sewn a new path into the very fabric of sound being released on labels Subtitles and Moving Shadow - have put them in the spotlight. Noisia have worked together such great names like Teebee, Cause 4 Concern, Calyx, Black Sun Empire and legendary Bad Company UK and their DJ fans include Ed Rush, Andy C, DJ Hype, Goldie, Dieselboy, Friction and the list goes on. Appart from Noisia they have also released tracks under aliases Drifter and Hustle Athletics. As a DJ Set, Noisia have been on tour in most of Europe and the US. This year TM05Base welcomes on its stage Entering the global techno scene in 1997, with Amil Khan as label manager, raised and based in Hong Kong, and Charles Siegling, musician and DJ, raised and based in Paris, Technasia have proved to be a formidable force in shaping the sound of techno today. Their emotive yet frenetic productions have made themselves known all over the world. Technasia built their notoriety with tracks like "Descent", "Future Mix" and "Hydra" as well as the more recent "Force" and "Evergreen". Their distinctive sound can be found in the sets of the worlds biggest techno dj's and producers such as Laurent Garnier, Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, Derrick May, Carl Cox and Sven Vath just to name a few. Technasia fuses the west with the east pushing forth a distinct sound due to its multi-cultural roots. Charles Siegling, producer and dj will be present at TM05Base, due to the support from the French Cultural Center in Timisoara and AFAA. As a DJ, Charles held numerous residencies across Europe from Brussel's Fuse to Nitsa in Barcelona. Charles is also distinct because of his 3 deck mixing technique the result being an eclectic and rich sound. This summer, Technasia have been working feverishily on their new album, due for release in November, as well as the global tour that will follow. Coups2Cross (DMC World Team Champion 2003 & 2004, OnandOnRecords) training and natural conclusion to an ever increasing number of titles: French DMC 2001 champs, runners up DMCs in 2001 and 2002, and Frech DMC champs 2003. Pfel is the last one to join the group bringing along the trophy in "Battle for world supremacy" and also French ITF 2003 champion. Alongside mixing, this quartet excells in production, bringing their own innovative style to the scene through the breakbeat series dubbed "Flying Saucer" (3 albums). Of the four C2C members, Atom and Pfel will perform at this year's TMBase festival with the support shown by the French Cultural Center Timisoara and AFAA. Rechenzentrum Greem, Atom, Pfel and 20syl are Coups2Cross (C2C), 2004 and 2003 DMC World team champions and it shows... Each of the 4 turntablists uses the turntable like an instrument; a beat, a bass-line, scratching a riff or cutting brass mashing it up into an audio buildup similar to classic instrumental music. Their two DMC titles set them apart from other turntable rockers, the result of their Rechenzentrum is on the search for new processes of music and moving image production while refining forms of presenting it on-stage treating both sound and image with equal importance and enhancing their role and value. An audio-visual unit, Mark - who studied European classical music produces stuttering beats and minimal rhythms that trip over themselves in a bid to escape routine blueprints, while Lillevan - who studied experimental film - does exactly the same with his visuals, deconstrunting video and film footage and rebuilding in an innovative way. With strong influences from Lettrisme, Dada, Cut and Paste techniques, Punk and many others they are unique in sound and delivery bringing their rich shows to various venues from museums and theatres to electronic dance and music stages. section member for several German indie rock bands. schneiderTM brings forth warmth and feel through his experiments in the realm of electronic music. While some of his fellow producers seem to be heading towards a more mechanic composition and texture, his productions feel vibrant and organic. Cunningly fusing drumloops and vocals with analogic abstracts, Dirk will take you on a journey along side Rechenzentrum with the support of the German Cultural Center Timisoara. Dirk Dresselhaus is the man behind schneiderTM, a former rhythm- Producing track since 1997, Chris Carter has had a constant number of releases in the UK on labels such as TCR, Botchit and Scarper, Forged, En:Vision, earning himself the reputation of a master track craftsman. In 2005 he founded his very own label Record Records - intended mainly for his own releases but also for Roxiller (a recent collaboration project with JHz) - a Roxiller track was recently included in the PSP version of the famous Wipeout Game. Chris is also a popular DJ, spinning records across Europe and the US to Japan and Australia. His tracks are often aired on radio stations such as : Radio1, Kiss, Ministry, Groovetech and more. His DJ fans include: Rennie Pilgrem, BLIM, Laurent Garnier, Adam Freeland, Meat Katie, Hybrid and Koma and Bones... As a DJ Kevin doesn’t stop at breakbeat, infusing tribal, tech, house and broken beat influences in his sets which are not dictated by a genre but rather a specific attitude towards music. Apart from his releases on Chi, Kevin remixed for Moving Target, Ritmic and Tipper and as a DJ has spinned along side most big names in the breaks scene today. JFB (UK Vestax Champion, One Eye Rec.) Fine Cut Bodies (Chi Recordings, Budapesta) Returning to a TMBase event, one of the founding members of Chi Recordings (Budapest), Kevin aka Fine Cut Bodies' musical tastes run the entire gamut from minimal to idm including dub, headz, broken beat, house, techno, electro and off course breakbeat. Known to the TMBase public from this springs Music Workshop, the UK Vestax Champion 2004 delivers a special taste to turntablism with his intricate sets mixing hip-hop breaks and drumandbass in an energy rich spectacle. After the blinding performance at the workshop JFBs presence is doubled with two distinct sets, one Friday and another one Saturday featuring a hiphop and an upfront drumandbass performance. Toronto's electro-pop trio pulls off fusing pop flavoured songs with experimental IDM styled sounds creating complex structures melted together via a sumptuous female vocalist. Initially a duo, the group consisted of husband and wife Robyn Sellman and Igor Olejar, adding the renowned experimental guitarist and performance artist Maz Fusion as the third member in 2005.
