COASTAL EROSION
COASTAL EROSION IS HAVING AN EFFECT ON THE COASTLINE OF THE UK.
THE AMOUNT OF EFFECT IS DETERMINED BY THE LAND USE.
IF THE AREA SUFFERING FROM CLIFF EROSION IS USED FOR SETTLEMENT, THE EFFECT IS
GREATER THAN IF THE CLIFF RECESSION IS AFFECTING FARMLAND, WHICH IS SEEN TO BE LESS
IMPORTANT AS IT IS NOT WORTH AS MUCH MONEY.
THE EFFECTS OF COASTAL EROSIN CAN BE SEEN ALL AROUND THE COAST OF THE UK.

MANAGEMENT OF COASTAL EROSION AT HOLDERNESS COAST.
• The Holderness coast is a coastal stretch in Yorkshire. It suffers from coastal erosion
due to the types of rock which make up the cliff.
• The rock types are Chalk and Clay till and both of these rock types are eroded by
the sea.
• The cliffs also suffer from slumping which makes the defence of the area even more
complex.
• Longshore drift moves sand along the coastline from south to north.
•
All of these factors must be considered when deciding the type of management
that will be effective in an area.
