Poetry
Poetry is very hard.
You must make it rhyme.
You’ve got to pick the right words.
To keep the rhythm in time.
This poem took me a long time
About ten minutes or so.
When I’ve finished copying it out,
I can put it away and go.

Poetry (or Cricket)
Writing poetry is like fielding
at cricket. You stand on the grass
watching, ready to act.
If you’re in the right place
at the right time and looking
in the right direction
you can hope to contribute,
occasionally, something useful
to the game.
And there’s always a hope of glory;
a moment may offer itself when everything
conspires in your favour –
the light, the wind, the batsman
(Whoever he may be).
A beautifully lobbed ball
will seem to slow down in the air
and curve is parabola
right into your waiting hands.
