Good time to begin Northeast and Southeast States and Capitals Maps
Based on 35 minute block of time
5.2B analyze causes and effects prior to and during the American Revolution such as the Boston
Tea party
Generalization – Revolution transforms government and society.
Concept – Revolution
Essential Question - What were the causes and effects of the Boston Tea Party? What were the
causes and effects of significant events during and after the American Revolution?(2B)
Students will determine the causes and effects and the impact of significant individuals, and
events of the American Revolution. They will examine how the colonist fought for independence
from England. They will use maps to identify the changing boundaries and economic regions of
the U.S. beginning in 1783.

italicized vocabulary
TE p. 136 Graphic Organizer introduction part 1 and 2 with p.103 student text and Interactive
Notebook p. 40-41
In student Social Studies notebook, quick write the answers to the two questions at the end of
p.103 textbook. Selected students can share their writing
What can a parent do when a child disobeys?
What happens to their relationship when the parent makes new rules or punishes the child?
TE.p137 Reading parts 1 and 2 with student text p.104 using Interactive Notebook p. 40-41
Continue with Reading parts 3 and 4 with student text p.105 using Interactive Notebook p. 40-41

Chapter 10 Test – Paper/pencil test
Anyone scoring below 70% will correct in class, writing page number proof of answer from text
and the take corrected test home in Tuesday Folder, Dec. 7 for parents to sign and return by
Friday, Dec. 10 if they wish grade to be changed.

Boston Massacre – Colonists and English soldiers were not getting along. One day a shot
rang out that caused the English soldiers to start firing on defenseless colonists.
Boston Tea Party – Colonists were protesting a tax that the English government required
them to pay for tea. They were angry because they had no representative in the English
Parliament.
Lexington and Concord – The first battle of the American Revolution
Declaration of Independence – The colonist listed their grievances (complaints) and
declared that they wanted to be an independent nation.
Articles of Confederation – The first form of government set up in the United States. The
government had limited powers and it was too weak to keep order.
The Battle of Yorktown – The battle that ended the American Revolution.
Treaty of Paris (1783)– The agreement that ended the American Revolution and declared
the colonies independent
