TRAVEL AGENCIES. The travel agency – definition, typology. Marketing conditions for touristic products

Main activities of a travel agency

TOUR-OPERATORS. Aspects of the activity of touroperators in Romania. Types of tours organized by touroperators. Activity strategies of tour-operators.

THE HOTEL. Criteria for the classification of hotels.

The organizational structure of a hotel. The main responsibilities of departments which function within a hotel. The concept of price policy within the hotel industry. Categories of approaches of rate setting in hotels. Techniques for setting up rates for rooms. The importance of price policy in the assessment of hotel services

THE RESTAURANT. Types of food establishments.

Techniques of menu prices set by restaurants.

TRANSPORTATION. Air transportation. Road transportation. Rail transportation. Shipping and inland

TOUR GUIDE OPERATION TECHNIQUES. Legal and institutional framework governing the activity of tour guide. The issue of the tour guide activity (qualities, obligations, duties of the tour guide).

TECHNICAL OPERATIONS OF TOURISM.

Presentation of the terms used in the organization and conduct of the tourism business in Romania.

Debates on the theme of the industry of hospitality.

ECONOMIC ENTITIES WITHIN TOURISM.

Characterization of the main categories of economic agents. Presentation of the conditions to be met by operators of tourism in order to conduct touristic activities and services. Understanding the various types of the distribution of touristic products.

TRAVEL AGENCIES. Presentation of the legislation on the setting up and the operation of travel agencies in Romania; similarities and differences between the Romanian legislation and the international law. Presentation of basic activities taking place in each sector of activity within an agency; types of documents and their content. Case study: analysis of the different types of contracts to be concluded between the travel agency and the tourist. Case study regarding the analysis of the price for a type of product such as stays or round trips. The study of specific job descriptions commonly found within travel agencies.

TOUR-OPERATORS. Outlining the criteria for differentiation between the travel agency and the

tour operator. Analysis of the main characteristics of touristic products supplyed by tour operators.

Case study: coming up with touristic products which may be the subject of activity of tour operators

THE HOTEL. Presentation of documents used in hotel activities (notice for bookingaccommodation, a card announcing your arrival and departure, bill), some examples of job descriptions for various positions within a hotel.

Case studies: setting up rates for rooms using various techniques of rating (the room-rate multiplier/the rule-of-thumb, the Hubbart formula). Case studies: Forecasting the room revenue; estimating the costs of rooms

TOUR GUIDE OPERATION TECHNIQUES.

One shall choose a specific type of service (city break, camps, specialized trips) depending on which the issues regarding the guiding of the group will be presented (presentation of landmarks, presentation of routes or trail blazing activities, setting up shelters or other specialized

1 tourism activities)

TOURISM ANIMATION. Presenting animation 1 programmes depending on the age of tourists.

Grading Policy:

The student pass the class if obtain more than 50 points from 100 points.

Classroom Rules of Conduct:

Turn off (or place on vibrate) cell phones and pagers during class

Food and beverages are not permitted in classroom

During exams, the use of cell phones, pagers, PDAs, or any other electronic devices is strictly prohibited
