Full Abstract: There are issues and considerations associated with managing multinational projects, that project managers should be aware of. These considerations include: Cultural differences, country infrastructure, legal system, financial system, staffing, local government, and technical standards. Cultural differences include cultural habits, languages, communication, customs, religions, and values. Country infrastructure covers transportation, standards, measuring system, and others. Legal system includes the legal system of the hosting country, employment laws, types of contracts, import and export laws. Financial systems cover topics such as revenue recognition, fund transfers, exchange rates, and contractual agreements. Staffing consideration deals with work visas, different holidays, and the combination of your team. Local government and political stability deals with security at the hosting country. Finally, technical standards will look at product specifications, standardization, and others. By understanding the impact of cultural differences, influences and considerations, project managers are able to minimize the risks and ensure a successful project. They also need to understand that team members or project owners may have a different cultural background that if not managed properly, can have a negative impact on the success of the project, costing firms millions of dollars.
