Job Description – Physics/Chemistry
The Department
This is a department of three specialist science teachers and one full time
technician. We have two specialist laboratories, one classroom, an office and a
preparation room. All rooms have PCs and video projectors and whiteboards.
The department is equipped for most common practical work, and is in the
process of updating and expanding our facilities and capabilities.
The Students
The student body is largely drawn from the Egyptian population of Alexandria,
with a substantial minority of expatriate British, US and other nationalities. All the
students are fluent English speakers with a strong motivation to access an
English language University education. Examination results achieved by past
students have been consistently good.
The Curriculum
The department caters to students from Years 7 to 13. All KS3 students follow a
British-style curriculum based on the Collins scheme. KS4 students study for
Cambridge IGCSE qualifications (Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620) and AS/A2
students also follow a Cambridge syllabus (Physics 9702, Chemistry 9701).
The new teachers will be responsible to the Head of Secondary.

To be deployed in the school as directed by the Head of Secondary /
Principal and give priority to maintaining high standards of teaching
performance within a stimulating and well-organised environment.
Undertake a full range of teaching duties to include; the planning and
preparation of lessons, the setting and marking of work, assessing,
recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of
pupils.
Work closely with colleagues towards the common aims, policies and
objectives of the school.
Be involved in the school’s appraisal cycle and undertake appropriate
professional development when necessary.
In line with school policy, enhance the personal welfare and academic
development of pupils.
Foster and develop co-operative relationships and effective
communication between the school and home, the community and outside
agencies.

Be a member of a Key Stage team, attend and contribute in staff
meetings, liaise with other Key Stage colleagues to ensure cross phase
continuity and progression.
Monitor resources along with Key Stage colleagues and ensure that
requisitions and orders are within budgetary allocations for the
subject/department.
To be a good ambassador for the school.
To treat matters with confidentiality and discretion.
To attend and organise CIBSA events according to the published
schedule.
To seek out cross curricula and cross phase links whenever possible and
appropriate.
Support pupils in extra curricula activities.
Support the positive, caring ethos within the school.
Undertake any duties as are reasonably requested by the Principal.
