Academic Year: 2010-2011
Course Textbook:
Reference: Functions, Statistics and Trigonometry
Authors: University of Chicago Mathematics Project
Publisher: Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley
Year: 1998
Course Description:
This course is designed for students who have completed Algebra I and II, and Geometry.
This course integrates the ideas of problem solving, functions, statistics and trigonometry
with the algebra and geometry the students have studied in previous courses. An
emphasis will be put on PSSA and SAT type problems
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course students should be able to:
 Graph data
 Find the model of a function
 Transform graphs and data
 Identify and use the six trigonometric functions
 Solve problems involving roots, logarithms, exponents, matrices, sequences,
series, polynomials and combinations
 Understand and use properties involving probability
 Graph quadratic relationships
This will be accomplished by traditional course work (lecture and homework), projects (both in
and out of classroom) and group work.

Mrs. Chisesi’s Course Policies, Requirements, Rules and
Regulations
Course Requirements:
Pencils
Binder for my class only
These items must be brought to class every day
Notes:
Tests:
Tests are given three or four times a quarter.
Projects:
In and out-of-class projects are given when appropriate.
Quizzes:
Quizzes are given every Friday or the last day of the week. Quizzes can be
unannounced (pop quizzes) as the need arises
Homework:
Homework is given every night, written or otherwise. Homework is to be done in
your notebook unless otherwise told to do it on loose-leaf. If homework is done
on loose-leaf it will be collected and graded. Homework will be checked on a
regular basis. If the homework is not done 0 points will be given for the
assignment. If the homework is completed 5 points will be given for the
assignment.
Notebook:
Each student is to have a notebook for math class. This notebook will contain
notes, warm-up, worksheets, quizzes and other information for you to be
successful in this class. An organized notebook will be essential for you
successful in this course.
FAILURE TO HAND IN MATERIAL ON TIME WILL RESULT IN A ZERO FOR THAT
PARTICULAR ASSIGNMENT
Absenteeism:
If you are absent for more than one day, please call the school office to have your
homework sent home. Call someone in your class to get your assignments or see me
when you return. When you miss a test, if you are only absent one day (the day before or
the day of the test) you will take the test on the day you return. If you are absent for more
than one day, you will take the test on the day after you return. It is your responsibility to
see me when you return to make up any missed tests, quizzes or homework. You have
one week after returning from being absent to turn in all material and take all tests.
Any student absent from class for in-school suspension, or out-of-school suspension must
see me with-in two days to make up any work, tests or quizzes. Failure to do so will
result in a zero for the work missed.
Any student absent from class for cutting class will receive a zero for any assignments
due, quizzes or tests on that day.
FAILURE TO MAKE UP WORK, TESTS, QUIZZES, WILL RESULT IN A ZERO FOR THE
ASSIGNMENT.
Test Return Policy:
Tests are usually returned within two days of the day the test is given. Projects are
returned in a timely fashion no later than one week after the collection date.
Cheating Policy:
Cheating will not be accepted in any form. This includes tests, quizzes, projects and
homework. Any student who is found cheating will receive a zero for the assignment,
quiz or test. Copying homework and other assignments is considered cheating and will
receive the appropriate grade. Parents/Guardians of the student will be notified as well as
any extra-curricular moderators. Any help on tests including looking on other’s papers,
extra papers containing answers or formulas, or any programs in a calculator is
considered cheating.
