RESEARCH INTERESTS
I am broadly interested in the physiological and hormonal mechanisms that modulate phenotypic
plasticity. Specifically, my research focuses on the immediate and sustained effects of the
developmental environment on phenotype and fitness using birds as a model system.

OUTREARCH EXPERIENCE
Volunteer, The Girls Way, Missoula, Montana, May 2011-present
I work with girls ages 9-18 to help them understand the biological bases of stress and to develop
effective coping strategies to manage stressful situations such as bullying.
Tutor, Study Jam, University of Montana, Sept. 2008 – May 2009
I assisted undergraduates with biology homework, papers, and test preparation for five hours a week.
Secretary, Women in Science and Engineering (WISE), May 2006 – May 2008
I contributed to the organization and mobilization of University of Florida community members to
encourage and support undergraduate and graduate women in science, mathematics, and engineering.
Volunteer and Group Leader, The Nature Conservancy, March 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, and
2005
I contributed to an annual, one-week long botanical inventory study of the flora of Santa Cruz Island.
I assisted in the training of volunteers in 2001 and served as a co-leader in 2002, 2004, and 2005.
Group Leader, NSF Advocates for Women in Science, Engineering, and Math, September 2001
- May 2002
I led middle school girls in science activities to help build interest and self-esteem in science.
MENTORSHIP
I have mentored three undergraduates at the University of Montana through the Howard Hughes
Medical Institute (HHMI) funded Montana Integrated Learning Experiences for Students (MILES).
One of these students was a first generation college student and two were women. My collaborations
with these students have resulted in one co-authored publication and five student presentations
(including three at national meetings).
