Course Objectives
The purpose of this course is to introduce you (the student) to the wonderful world of business. Upon
completing this course, you should have a solid understanding of numerous business topics, including:








Can you generally describe the Unites States business system? What are some legal aspects faced by
firms and what are their social responsibilities?
What are the major forms of business ownership?
What are the major challenges of business management, particularly leadership and human resources?
How do businesses market products and services?
How do businesses disclose finances? How is financial information reported to the public?
What is the role of money and banking in the economy? How do securities markets functions?
What are some basic topics for discussing international business?
Can you make an informed decision about a college major or a business career?
Course Policies







Class Meetings: Be on time and be prepared. Cell phones must be turned off.
Absences: please notify me in advance, just as you would with an employer.

Grades: we can discuss grades at any time.
Exams: the lowest score of the three exams will be dropped. There are no make-up exams.
Attendance: miss three or more class meetings and you will be excluded. Do not rely on the instructor
to drop you from the class if you stop attending. It is the student’s responsibility to drop the course if
he/she stops attending.
Academic Honesty: Cheating and/or plagiarism are not tolerated. Students enrolled at Santiago Canyon
College are expected to be honest and forthright in their academic endeavors and assume an

Teaching Experience: Santiago Canyon College, Fall 2006. Adjunct Business Instructor at Los Angeles Pierce
College and East Los Angeles College (2001-2006).
Business Background: E-Business Consultant for Wells Fargo Bank (2001-2006). Vice President/Sales
Manager for Downey Savings (1992-2001). I have over 15 years of experience in the Financial Services
industry.
Education: M.B.A., University of Southern California (1999); B.A., UC Santa Barbara (1987)
