MINUTES OF BCA BOARD MEETING February 5, 2013

· Current Cash, Capital Fund Account Balance, and Liabilities

· Creekedge Assessment (changed back to 2012 value of $2,100 vs. $13,900)

· 1200 Beulah Road Assessment (still under review, $908,200)

Ron presented current finances. We have $15,000 in our checking account. There is no rental income at the moment.

A pipe burst recently which resulted in a $400 bill.

The assessment is back for the small parcel of land at Creekedge but the assessment for the large parcel should be back in about a month.

Block Captains Kick off Meeting – Ceil Greber o Proposed Dates: Saturday, February 16th, Sunday February 17th o Proposed Agenda / Tasks:

 Nomination of Leader

 Meeting cadence (monthly, quarterly)

 Ongoing tasks: 1. Identify new neighbors 2: Assemble welcome wagon packets 3. Recruit block captains (ongoing) 4. Report needs back to BCA

 Immediate Block Captain Tasks: 1. Meet and greet new neighbors and deliver welcome wagon packets 2. Recruit BCA, BGC, BSC members 3. Notify neighbors about events.

Diane Law presented a prototype of the basket she proposes to use for the “Welcome Wagon”. The contents were as follows:

Tara volunteered to combine all the materials into a booklet. Bill suggested a generic issue of the Blackboard with all the necessary information included.

The Block Captains’ meeting is set for February 24 th . It will be necessary to nominate a leader of the WW/Block Captain program. Diane suggested that it should be a subcommittee of Membership.

Bill suggested ‘New BCA Member’ signs which could be displayed in the new member’s yard for a week or so.

2. Membership (7:45 – 8:00)

Ongoing, automatic membership renewal of $10 / month

Recommended email blast reminder

Recommended significant member versus non-member cost difference

Post Names of members on website

A motion to create a new membership category of ‘Sustaining Member’ was made by Stephanie McCarthy and seconded by Justin McCarthy. It will cost a minimum of $120/yr or $10/mo. This would entitle the sustaining member to reduced admission to all events for the entire family and reduced rental fees. Other benefits are yet to be determined.

3. Fundraising Efforts (8:00 – 8:30)

B52 in the Spring– April, May, June – Bill Miller

We have sold 275 tickets. No new B52 for now as the consensus was that it would be a hard sell. We will wait until

May, June, July.

Justin would like to run a Poker Night. Charge say $40/night and give $100 in chips. April 20 th for first night.

Bill proposed an Elimination Dinner. Serve dinner, sell tickets.

Night at the Races – Maria will contact the Pages with a view to having it in September.

Outing to Hofbrauhaus in the Spring suggested. Hire a bus and upcharge.

RAD – Stephanie had concerns about the eligibility requirements. Allegheny County Economic Development Community

Infrastructure and Tourism Fund – there is also a problem with eligibility

2013 Goals:

1.

Successfully appeal 2013 Property Assessment (Started)

2.

Revitalize BCA with memberships/donations and initiate 2013 Jubilee Campaign (Started)

3.

Increase re-occurring rentals with an emphasis on educational programs (Not Started)

4.

Increase cash flow through fundraising and grant proposals (Started)

Went through list of people who signed up at the Town Hall. Suggested that teachers donate time to teach crafts/skills and charge for materials. Ashley and Kristin signed up to help with this.

Erin Sass wrote ‘message about community’

We need to investigate the cost of pulling down the building – Ben Roeths
