The default installation location is C:\ProgramFiles\LucasArts\Monkey 4. There are three
Installation Options available. The Standard Install requires 195MB of free hard drive space and
the Complete Install requires 1133MB. There is also a Custom Installation option, which allows
you to select separate components to be installed to your hard drive. The requirements for a
Custom install range from 8MB up to 1133MB. We recommend that you have at least an additional
75 MB of free space available on the hard drive after installing.
Running Escape from Monkey Island
--------------------------------------------------------To run the game, click on your Start Menu, select Programs, then LucasArts, then Monkey 4 and
click on Play Monkey 4. This will bring up the Launcher screen. Click on Play Monkey 4 on the
launcher and it will begin the game.
Although it is possible to run the executable directly off of the CD, we recommend that you use the
shortcuts the installer creates in the Start Menu or the shortcut to Monkey4 which is created on the
desktop during installation. Running the executable directly from the CD may cause the game to
run much more slowly and hit the CD much harder.

Movement Modes
---------------------The Escape from Monkey Island supports two different movement modes: character-relative and
camera-relative. Character-relative movement is the default mode; your left and right on the
keyboard is the same as Guybrush's left and right. Camera-relative movement means that your left
and right on the keyboard is the same as left and right on the screen, independent of the direction
that Guybrush is facing.
Mouse Support
------------------There is no mouse support used while running Escape from Monkey Island.
Joystick and Gamepad support
------------------------------------ You can assign game button functions to each of the 4 directions on the HAT control of a
typical flight stick style joystick, even though the manual says that the HAT control is not used.
If you are using one of these joysticks, it is recommended that you map functions to the hat
accordingly so that you can make full use of the features on your joystick and minimize the
needs to use the keyboard during play.
 For joysticks or gamepads with analog sticks, an analog mode is available from the in-game
Options menu. Enabling this allows you to control whether Guybrush runs or walks and how
swiftly he turns by how far the stick is pushed. If you are playing with a digital type gamepad
you should leave this option turned off.
