Students will be able to advance their technical abilities through the exploration of ballet choreography, both classical and contemporary. Students will be required to utilize ballet terminology. Students will work on posture issues, balance, body form, strength and flexibility. Course Learning Outcomes: -Students will demonstrate the mastery of combinations of specific movement exercises delivered throughout the semester. -Students will identify and articulate an understanding of terminology directly related to this type of dance technique, they will recognize the qualities as related to the five components which make this type of dance technique uniquely different from other types. -Students will articulate terminology directly related to this type of dance technique, and they will recognize the qualities as related to the five components, which make this type of dance technique uniquely different from other types. -Students will demonstrate the mastery of combinations of specific movement exercises delivered throughout the semester. Supplies: Dance Attire – Black leotard and pink tights for women, white or black form fitted shirt or tank for men with black tights and split sole ballet shoes (preferably canvas) for both men (black) and women (pink). Hair should be pulled away from face and tightly secured into a bun (female students). Please also bring a towel and water bottle. Please have all your supplies, no later, then the second day of class. *Discount Dance Teacher Code - TP27386 Requirements: All students are required to obtain the syllabus and any other required paperwork from the instructor’s website (www.dancebykdb.com) and have their proper attire, no later, then the second day of class. The student should read and make sure they understand all pertinent class materials obtained from the instructor’s website, these materials will be checked by the instructor on the second day of class, once signed off by the instructor, students are in agreement with class requirements for the entire semester. There will be a placement audition for all students on the second day of the class. Students must take part in this placement audition. Email: All ELAC students should have an ELAC email. This email will be utilized by ELAC for communication purposes that are pertinent to registration, class status and assignments. Class Project: All students will be required to participate in a class project which will utilize skills learned in class and may require an individual written assignment. Written Assignments: All students are required to attend one specified ELAC Dance Department/Let’s Dance Company sponsored dance concert and type a 2-page summary of the event. The summary should have a title page that includes the students name, class title, time and day, instructor’s name and the date. The instructor must receive the summary on the first day of class that follows the event. *If you are in more then one class with this instructor, you will need to attend other approved concerts to satisfy this assignment for each class. Whenever absences, “in hours”, exceed the number of hours the class meets per week the student may be excluded from class by the instructor. If the student stops attending a class, it is the student’s responsibility to officially drop the class. It is the student’s responsibility to consult with his or her instructor regarding any absences that would alter his or her status in the class. Tardies: Two (2) tardies will be considered the equivalent of one class absence. Leaving class early is not permitted without permission and participation points will be deducted accordingly. Sitting out/observing class is only permitted with an official medical excuse and participation points will be deducted accordingly.
