Instructions for Using the SAS Curriculum Pathways Writing Reviser I. Access the SAS Curriculum Pathways Writing Reviser A. Go to www.sascurriculumpathways.com B. Click the orange “Subscriber Login” tab. C. Enter user name under “Student.” 1. Type “nwilkes” in all lowercase letters. D. Off to the right is a box that says “Quick Launch.” 1. Enter “1242.” E. Click start. 1. If anything comes up that says you need to run Java, tell it to do so. II. Uploading Your Document. A. Enter your name, first then last. B. Enter your topic, “Frost and Dickinson Analysis.” C. Open the soft copy of the essay you have saved. D. Copy and paste it into the dialogue box on the SAS Writing Reviser. 1. After you copy your document, you will have to use the edit button on the Reviser; it will not let you right click and paste. E. Go to “Tools” and use the spell check. F. Click next. III. Using the Reviser A. Analyze your statistics. 1. Pay particular attention to the following items: wordiness, passive voice, fragments, run-ons, and words used more than once. 2. Close the statistics window. B. Under “Big Picture,” click on “Focus.” 1. Click on “Thesis” and follow the instructions off to the right. C. Under “Closer Look,” click on “Economy.” 1. Click on “Wordiness” and follow the instructions. a. Make any necessary changes. 2. Click on “Voice” and follow the instructions. a. Make any necessary changes. D. Under “Closer Look,” click on “Variety.” 1. Click on “Transitions” and follow the instructions. a. Make any necessary changes. 2. Click on “Repetition” and follow the instructions. a. Make any necessary changes. E. Under “Closer Look,” click on “Clarity.” 1. Click on “Diction.” 2. Evaluate your paper for “Clichés and Jargon” and “Vague Words.” a. Make any necessary changes. IV. Submitting Your Work A. Once you have completed the assigned tasks on the Writing Reviser, proofread, and revise your paper again, to where you feel it is fit to submit. Click finish. B. Under “Class,” type “AP Lit. and Comp.” C. Under the “Comments” section, write an evaluation of your work. Answer the following questions: 1. What specific skills do you feel you demonstrate as your best ones after evaluating your writing by using the SAS Reviser? 2. What specific skills do you now realize that you need to address in future writing assignments? 3. What aspects of writing do you think you might not fully understand? 4. What grade would you give your own paper? Base your response on the detailed explanations of essay grading found on Mr. Byrd’s Wiki. 5. Do you have any other comments about your writing, good or bad? D. Once you have completed your commentary, click on the following boxes: “Current Working Draft,” “Original Draft,” and “Statistics.” E. Click “Email.” F. Send your work to “byrdj@wilkes.k12.nc.us.”
