CIITSBITS 81: SAS Curriculum Pathways SAS Curriculum Pathways has long been a part of CIITS, but the 2015-16 school year brings some wonderful new features and updates. SAS targets five disciplines: ELA, mathematics, science, social studies, and Spanish. It covers grades K-12+, and it contains over 1500 standards-based resources. Some highlighted features for this new school year include: Algebra 1 Course. Although most resources in SAS are supplemental, this is an actual course (can be used as a stand-alone course or integrated into existing courses by components). All lessons come with four sections (Get Ready, Learn, Practice, and Review). Apps. In addition to online features, these apps are available for mobile devices and include: o SAS Data Notebooks (helps students create and monitor goals) o SAS FlashCards (create flashcards and send to students) o SAS Gloss (drawing app; paperless classroom tool) o SAS Math Stretch (bellringers; elementary math skills) o SAS Read Aloud (early learners; free books) o SAS Reading Records (automates running records; students record reading/provide retell/answer questions and teachers provide feedback) o SAS Writing Navigator (see section below) Data Depot. This data literacy/data analysis resource provides clean data sets that are curated (69 currently with more planned), and many provide accompanying lessons. Explore! Primary Sources. This is a repository of primary sources spanning four centuries. Students are given hundreds of primary sources that help provide historical context and encourage active reading (some sources even include audio). Science Virtual Labs. Students can gain a deeper understanding of science content by conducting online experiments, viewing simulations and animations, utilizing interactive features, and receiving immediate feedback. Virtual labs can be used as practice before inschool lab situations, and they can be used to present content that isn’t practical or safe in real-life settings. Spanish Videos. These target beginning-level Spanish students, and included are assessment materials and related flash cards. Writing Navigator. This component includes four writing tools that take students through the writing process (Writing Planner, Writing Drafter, Writing Reviser, and Writing Publisher).
