Who the project is for or who is funding the project. Official name of the project. Communicate to the reader the purpose of the document. This section describes the chronology of events leading up to the project request. It is a high-level description of the customer’s requirements and should demonstrate a basic understanding of the problem, opportunity, or directive. This section describes the size and boundaries of the project in terms of Stakeholders, Data, Processes, and Locations. This section documents what lifecycle approach or route will be used (ex. waterfall, spiral, etc.) and the deliverables the project team is responsible for delivering (ex. documents, databases, code components, screens, training, etc.). This section documents how the project will be managed in order to be successful. Include how the team will be structured and built, who the project manager is, and the experience level of the team and manager. List if there is any training required by the team members. Also document how the status of the project will be reported between the team and management and the customer. Finally, document the procedures for handling changes (ex. requirements changes) and conflict resolution. List all applicable project constraints. This section provides estimates of the effort, time, and costs required to complete the project. Its wise to provide an estimate in terms of a range in those areas that are not well defined. In addition list all risks and assumptions regarding the project. These are very important because they may have had a bearing on how you estimated a particular area and should be communicated to the reader. Authorization to Proceed Provide signatures documenting concurrence of agreement to the provisions of the SOW. Include any addition documentation such as models or referenced documentation that may aid the reader in the understanding or the approval of the document. Appendices
