March 2011 A publication from: Cardinal Country Daycare 1501 Farnham Street Columbus, WI 53925 920/623-4788 Mission Statement: To provide a nurturing, warm, safe and loving environment, where self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected for all children, families and staff at Cardinal Country Daycare. Administrator’s Desk: Spring is coming! That is my favorite time of year because everything starts fresh and new. We have had some marvelous changes over the last few months and it will benefit everyone. The word is getting out about the great facilities and the wonderful programs that we are offering our families. Our Columbus center is getting very full and soon we will overflow again to the Fall River center. We have no new families joining Fall River so we can not bring on any new teachers yet. We have some families that wanted our program right away and they were willing to start in Columbus where there was space but would like to switch to Fall River as soon as there is room. How will all of this help? With increased staffing we will not have to juggle the children to different classrooms as often. The increased income will allow us to purchase some necessary items that we have been unable to get. But most of all it will bring up the morale that has been so low for so long. We have had a tough 3 years but it just proves that if you hold out hope and work hard that life will come back. It might not be exactly the same but it is the best we can give to you. There is a lot going on in the government right now, my staff is not part of the union, so what is decided will affect us as it will everyone. Whether we agree or disagree it will be dealt with personally and not at work. Our concern while at the center is for the children and the care they are receiving from us. Enjoy all the fun events that are coming this spring and keep the word of mouth advertising going. Remember if they mention your name you will get $25 off your invoice when they start attending. I love life and I hope you do too! Jo ~~~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Why do frogs like St. Patrick’s Day? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Program Assistant’s Desk: Have a wonderful month. Remember Daylight Savings Time begins on March 13th, so SPRING forward one hour on that day! 1 Enjoy your month, Ms. Holly Financial Assistant ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened. By: Dr. Seuss ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Little Sprouts: February was a short month, but we changed a lot. We are pulling up on toys and walking around them. We like to follow each other around the room crawling too. We are learning that we have to share the toys with others. We are looking forward to an early spring, seeing the ground hog didn’t see his shadow! We hope we will be able to get outside more. We will welcome to our room Taylor, Kinsley, Ella and Ambrielle. We are looking forward to meeting them. Happy 1st birthday to Sophia on March 1st. We hope the month of March will be a sunny month and not too windy. Have a good month, Ms. Darlene and the Sprouts Terrific Toddlers: Well I hope everyone enjoyed their month. This warm weather February brought us got us outside finally! I would like to welcome Spencer and his family to our room. Also a big HAPPY 2nd BIRTHDAY to Kaden. Themes we will be working on are: Wacky Weather, Dr. Seuss, and St. Patrick’s Day. Have a great month, Ms. Billi Jo and the Terrific Toddlers The Gingerbread Room: I can handle believe that it is time to write another newsletter article! We have been so busy in the Gingerbread room in February, the time has flown by. We had a new friend start in February. His name is Austin and he fits in like he’s been with us forever! He had a great transition to our school and continues to do well, even potty training! Austin will be celebrating his 3rd birthday in March. February was the biggest month yet for potty training! I think it is safe to say that we currently have 5 completely potty trained friends and 1 in the process. We can’t take any credit for these accomplishments. Children will potty train when they are ready. If you are too pushy, they will show you who is really in control of their little body and its functions. But if you watch for signs and encourage them when they are ready, the results can be miraculous! So way to go you great big two year olds! Thank you so much for all of the beautiful valentines. We enjoyed the touching sentiments. We did not enjoy getting out of our routine. Or, should I say the children did not enjoy it! Sometimes when we think we are planning special events and snacks for children we need to step back and ask ourselves, is this for the children’s benefit? Young children, less then 3, don’t mind eating crackers every day for snack. In fact, they look forward to familiarity. (Just ask a parent of a two year old who has eaten nothing but grapes for a week!) They enjoy knowing the order of events and feel safe in their routines. When we throw in large new events, anticipation of getting stuff, and change their regular diets, we are on the track of trouble. These things can throw a toddler off for a couple of days! We will try to be careful when that sneaky leprechaun comes to follow our schedule even with all the mischief. 2 Have a great month, The Gingerbread Teachers ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Child: Knock Knock Teacher: Who’s there? Child: Irish Teacher: Irish who? Child: Irish you a happy St. Patrick’s Day! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Cozy Critter Room: Lion or Lamb, how will March turn out to be? For the Critters I know we’ll take a look into colors. I’ll send home a copy of our calendar because each child will have a day where they’ll have to find items of a certain color and fill a ziplock bag. We will have a special St. Patrick’s day celebration full of green-ness. A note will be posted as time approaches. We have no March birthdays *** Please remember to fill up your child’s extra clothes this time of year. We get soaked from all the melting snow and puddles. Till Next Month Ms. Chelsea and the Critter Bunch The Monkeys/Sunshine Kids: Hello Monkey Families! We have had a Great month and boy has it flown by! You can hear spring coming around the corner! Our focus this month has been counting, recognizing, and writing numbers one through ten. Some of the activities we have done that incorporated these numbers have been number one collages, painting two, tic tac toe, four fold, illustrating our own “Five Little Monkeys”, shaping sixes out of play dough, and the kangaroo seven hop. We have also been learning about volcanoes. We enjoyed exploring a backpack from the Columbus Public Library that had several books on volcanoes and a big plastic volcano that we made erupt. The monkeys learned about chemical reactions in this experiment as well! They found it exciting, suspenseful, and intriguing! If you want to try it at home you just mix 1/4c vinegar, 2 drops of dish soap, 3 drops of red food coloring. In a separate dish put 1-2 Tbsp. of baking soda. Pour the liquid mixture into the dish and watch the children’s eyes light up Just a reminder, send appropriate winter apparel (snow pants, waterproof mittens/gloves, hats, snow boots) so that we can enjoy the fresh air. Also make sure that your child has an extra outfit in case the snow soaks through during outdoor play. Thank you for your continual support! Until next month, Ms. Anna 4K!4K!4K!4K!4K! Greetings 4K Families, This is Ms. Anna, the newest addition to the 4K program I have truly enjoyed getting to know each and every child in our class! Everyone is so unique and eager to learn! Our transition has gone smoothly through this introduction process. This month has been another exciting journey as the children have been learning about more capital letters (S, V, U, X, and Z,). Our theme has been Feet and Shoes, so we started up a shoe store in the dramatic play area. Sales are soaring as we find the perfect fit for each of our customers! In the math area, children have been counting toes by placing paper clips on each toe as they go. We have also examined and measured different sized shoes deciding which one is big, bigger, and biggest, small, smaller and smallest. 3 Another exciting objective we are adding to our program is the Book Worm. We want our worm to wrap around our whole room, but we need your help! Please fill out your child’s colored circles that we send home every day. Please write your child’s name, book title, and author on one side of the circle. Your child may choose any book that he/she would like to read. When your child returns the colored circles, we will send more home. The more you read at home the faster our worm will grow and the faster our worm grows the sooner we will earn a PIZZA party! Reading is a huge part of your child’s language development! So let’s READ, READ, and READ some more!!!! Thank you again for all the nutritious and delicious snacks! The kids love them! Stay warm and safe! Cheers, Ms. Anna & Mr. Johnson Class activation code: GM784 Every online order earns your child's classroom a FREE $3 book choice. As always thank you for your support!
