Course Syllabus:
AP Statistics
AP Statistics will complete the content and experience of a one-semester college introduction to
statistics. The course is focused on the collection, display, analysis, and interpretation of data. It is
intended to prepare students for the Advanced Placement Examination in Statistics. A TI-84+
graphing calculator will be available for check-out.
The AP Exam
Students in AP Statistics may earn college credit for statistics by satisfactory completion of the
AP Statistics Exam. Typically this means a score of 3 or higher, out of 5, on the AP exam,
depending on the institution granting credit. The AP Exam is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13,
2015 (Afternoon Session). There is an alternate exam date if you happen to be traveling that
weekend.
My goal is to prepare every student for the AP exam.
The AP exam is NOT required for completion of the course. However, students should expect the
pace and requirements of the course to be consistent with a college level course. Students
should plan on, and expect to spend significant time outside of class reading the text and other
material, reviewing class notes, doing homework, and seeking help when needed. Students who
are successful in this endeavor will be well prepared for the AP Exam.

Assessment:
Grades will be based on two categories: Content (85%) and Life Skills (15%).
Content includes quizzes, tests, and semester/final exams. Because this is a college-level
course, tests are timed and re-tests are not available. Tests are always announced. They will
concentrate on the current unit of study but may also include material from previous units. There
will be a cumulative semester exam at the end of each semester. Quizzes may or may not be
announced. They will concentrate on material from the preceding few days. Quiz ideas come
from your homework. Tests / Quizzes must always be taken on the scheduled day.
Life Skills includes work ethic (homework completion), participation (on-task behavior in
class), and courtesy/respect (for the teacher and classmates).
Homework is practice for success. You are expected to make mistakes and struggle
from time to time. Use your mistakes and frustrations to create quality questions that
will help you to improve your understanding. Homework may be checked at the beginning of
each class period and, in addition to providing individual practice, is used to inform the instructor
of problem areas that need to be addressed. Therefore, no late homework will be accepted
after the unit test, except for students with excused absences.
Pre-arranged absences:
Please notify me as soon as possible. It is expected that all work will be completed upon
your return.
Absences:
If you are absent, you are responsible for classwork/homework missed. All missed work
due to unplanned excused absences must be turned in within 1 day + the number of class days
absent.
Tardy Policy:
You are officially tardy if you are outside the door when the bell rings. Be in the room and
in your seat.
