Kuwait University's achievements for the year 2012
2012 was a year full of significant events and several accomplishments for Kuwait University in all fields
and at different academic, scientific, research and students levels.
Kuwait University, the great scientific edifice was able to achieve superiority among higher education
institutions in the country and one of the best universities in the Middle East with its great academic and
administrative staff members as well as students, adding more credit to its 46th years of excellence,
brilliance, and prosperity, to continue on its proficient journey on the threshold of technological
progress the world is witnessing.
The achievements and events at Kuwait University varied, including earning local scientific awards and
prizes by university professors and students, as well as other global and international awards and
agreements among many academic and scientific research institutes. Kuwait University also witnessed a
noticeable expansion in the infrastructure work through the establishment of the major project of Sabah
Al-Salem University City-KU, to achieve the academic dream that will become a reality in the next few
years. Other events and achievements include conferences and exhibitions at all colleges which reflects
the vision of the university in providing premium education while contributing in the production,
development, and dissemination of knowledge, and rehabilitation of human resources to achieve the
development goals and community needs.

KU honored patents receivers, Subeeh Al-Mukhaizeem, Faculty Staff Member at the Computer
Engineering Section- College of Engineering and Petroleum, and Dr. Ozgur Sinanoglu, Faculty Staff
Member at the Mathematics Section- College of Science, first for receiving 2 patents, the first was for a
device to raise the level of compression results of the examination of electrical circuits while the second
patent was for a device that reduces the amount of maximum energy in compact testing of electrical
circuits Dr. Sami Habib and Dr. Maitham al-Saffar, faculty members in the Department of Computer
Engineering, College of Engineering and Petroleum were also honored for inventing a planning tool for
the Internet.
Deans' Committee approved to develop a program for forensic science.
Professor Ibrahim Al-Rashdan at College of Medicine performed a rare (restoration mitral valve of the
heart) without surgery.
Academic cooperation between KU and universities in South Korea.
College of Engineering and Petroleum opened labs of Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals research
center.
College of Engineering and Petroleum inaugurated the 21st exhibition of engineering design.

Dr. Nouri Al-Witar, College of Education, won first place in Kuwait’s International Quran Competition
Prize, which was held under the patronage of H.H. the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah,
for creating an application for Quran expressions that can be used on iPhones and iPads, this linguistic
project is the first of its kind considering its unprecedented and leading idea in its field through word
strengthening and expressing them by sound and image.
College of Education at Kuwait University applied the E-learning system.
KU celebrated the annual honoring ceremony for Administrative Excellence Prize of 2012, consolidating
creativity and innovation of employees.
Planning Sector at KU prepared a study Titled “Kuwait University Graduates and Kuwaiti Labor Market’s
Needs and Appointments of Bachelor Degree Holders for the Years from 2007 to 2009.
College of Business Administration signed an agreement memorandum with the agricultural university in
Bulgaria.
College of Engineering concluded the engineering workshop for high school students. Noting that
Nanotechnology won the engineering courses for summer programs.
College of Business Administration earned the global CFI accreditation.
KU accepted 7859 students for the first semester and 1540 for the second semester of 2012/2013.
KU Faculty Association organizes a gala dinner welcoming the month of Ramadan attended by President
of Kuwait University.
Dr. Abdulmajeed Safar, College of Science, used nanotechnology in the production of green tea lotion,
and after laboratory experiments he discovered that green tea herbs helped in curing cirrhosis disease
by using nanotechnology.
The President of Kuwait University issued a decree accepting the transfer of ownership and
subordination of the central laboratory for environmental analysis to KU.

KU signed a cooperation agreement contract with the University of Xinhua during his visit to the Chinese
capital Beijing.
Director of Sports Activities of the Deanship of Student Affairs, Jamal Buarki announced a cooperation
agreement with the Academy of English Premier League, Nottingham Forest Club, for the care of the
Department's activities and events during the current academic year.

University, represented by College of Engineering and Petroleum, and the International Association for

KU started (Kuwait's Third Conference for Electronic Systems and Services) under the patronage of the

at Sabah Al-Salem University City in Shedadiya.

47 million Kuwaiti Dinars.
