Time For Lunch: Lesson # 6
Objectives: TLWBAT
 Discuss the different healthy lunch foods, and the four groups in the food
pyramid.
 Identify food tools and when to use them through modeling and TPR.
 Express likes and dislikes of different lunch foods orally and through writing
exercises.
 Show knowledge of condiment such as ketchup, mustard, salt, and pepper by
selecting appropriate condiment from a display.
 Demonstrate how to arrange a table setting.
Activities
 Build vocabulary by practicing the words from the word bank.
 Make and fill a lunch tray by cutting and coloring food pictures and then pasting
them on the worksheet on page 42.
 Practice how to arrange a table setting using a fork, spoon, knife, tray, and napkin.
 Demonstrate what tool is used for different foods by looking at the foods on their
trays; for example, “Do you need a spoon to eat this food?” “Which foods from
your tray require the use of a fork?”
 Have students cut pictures food from a magazine and categorize foods by pasting
them appropriately on a poster board divided into likes/dislikes.
 Graph the classes’ likes and dislikes of lunch foods by completing a bar graph.

 Label and color a food pyramid activity sheet #32, page 43, with the following;
breads and cereals, fruits and vegetables, proteins, oils and sugars, and discuss the
concept of healthy foods.

Extended Activities
 Put together a patterned book about lunch, page 44.
 Use activity sheet #32, page 43, to create a healthy meal. Distribute paper plates
and draw or cut out pictures of foods from the four groups on the food pyramid.
Children will share their completed plates with the group, naming the meal they
prepared, the foods they included, and which group the foods are in.
 Use activity sheet on page 45 to identify how food pairs, such as corn can be
popcorn, peanuts can be peanut butter, etc. Students will color, cut, and match the
food with its appropriate pair.
Homework
 Take home your patterned book about lunch and read it to an adult.
 Write a sentence about your favorite food.
 Categorize your dinner from home into the food pyramid.
Assessment
 Label a food pyramid with the four food groups.
 List three healthy lunch foods.
 Arrange a table setting using a plate, fork, spoon, knife, and napkin.
