Introduction: Welcome to Property I. Property I focuses on personal property and the
possession and use of real property. In Spring Semester 2009, students will be required to take
Property II, which focuses on the use and acquisition of real property.

Required Text:
Joseph W. Singer, Property Law: Rules, Policies, and Practices (Aspen 4th ed. 2006) (“Text”).
Assessment: Each student’s grade in this course will be determined as follows: (1) Final Exam –
70%; and (2) Mid-Term Exams, Written Assignments, and/or Quizzes – 30%.
Reading Assignments: The course outline contains 38 assignments. We will cover one
assignment per class period. For each class, students are expected to read the required
assignment (text and assigned cases, statutes, articles, etc.) and be prepared to discuss the
assigned reading and answer any pertinent questions. Copies of the cases, statutes, and articles
listed on the course outline are available on the Property I Blackboard site.
Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance is required.
