PE/HE Project Updates:
Life Skills Training: Implementation of this pilot project is underway!
TGFU: Suzanne Glavin is developing a resource utilizing the current grade 5-8 outcomes from
Framework of Outcomes for Active Healthy Lifestyles , related to the Teaching Games for Understanding categories. Tentative timelines have been established that will include meetings with Suzanne and I, then to follow with subsequent related workshops in 2010 along with an on-line support document in just under one year from now.
PE/HE Partner-related Projects:
BOT: The writing of this K-12 initiative, that includes 2-3 lessons per grade. The translation and production of the document is nearly complete. It is expected that a BOT CD resource will be released for all Manitoba Schools in January 2010.
PE/HE ISO course:
English ISO courses: Gr 9 sign-off of revised course is in process, Gr 10 in the field, Gr 11 in edit stage,
Gr 12 is in the writing process.

C heck the “ what’s new” section in addition to all the other information included on that site, including
Vancouver 2010 link for teachers. Relation Shifts DVD suggested for Module E, Grade 12 Active Healthy
Lifestyles, has been included in Learning Resources section and on the Gr 11, 12 page.
Other:
Survey of community use of schools and school use of community facilities (update)
Manitoba Education, and Culture, Heritage and Tourism have contracted with the Canadian Council on
L earning to conduct a survey of Manitoba’s school division Superintendents, School Principals and
Municipal CAO’s and Recreation Directors on user fees and policies related to community use of schools and school use of community facilities. Online surveys are currently being conducted (School Principals were be emailed through the Superintendent). The survey of Municipal CAO’s and Rec Directors will take place in January 2010. The results of this survey will build an understanding of the current situation and will be used as a foundation for future policy development related to user fees and joint use agreements.
Youth Health Survey- Nearly 50,000 students grades 6- 12 (but primarily grades 9-12) were surveyed.
Many schools have received their school reports. Initial contact with these reports are made by RHA’s who are taking the lead role in relation to future follow-ups to assist in developing plans to address any shortfalls that evidences from the YHS results may have indicated. There are some tools available via way of power points to assist communities in making presentations in relation to YHS results. These tools are available at the Health in Common website for easier access: www.healthincommon.ca

The Provincial Youth Health Survey Report is expected to be released in the early portion of January
2010.
