PERSUASIVE SPEECH (7 minutes)

Nov. 20 – December 18, 2015

Step 1: Topic selection and information gathering (8 days) a. All students must have final topic chosen, first source (2facts.com) printed out, bib card on source Nov. 20 b. Students must have thesis statement and 2+ main points including contradictions on organizer Nov. 23 c. Students must have source highlighted, numbered with source # and paragraph numbering, and notecards created according to directions given by deadline. Nov. 30

Must turn in organizer with notecards – add evidence

to organizer from source #1 d. Students must have second and possibly third source chosen, highlighted, numbered, and notecards created according to directions given by deadline. Organizer due. Dec. 4

*****(Minimum of 30 notecards from 2 or 3 sources)

Step 2: Organizing your Speech (7 days) a. Students will organize notecards according to categories

(Monroe’s Motivated sequence – 5 steps) b. Students will prepare an outline using Monroe’s Motivated

Sequence, to use as a prompt for their speech.

(Outline Format – see example given) Rough draft due - Dec. 9 c. Peer edit – TIME SPEECH (7 minutes?) Dec. 10 d. Students will make corrections necessary for final draft

OUTLINE Final DRAFT due w/sources/notecards/bibs by beginning of the hour

Step 3: Presentation of Speech (6 days)

Dec. 11 a. Students will practice oral presentation of Speech topic

Dec. 11, 14, 15 c. Students will present speech Dec. 16, 17, 18
