Group Members: SAVE these pages! The Diary of Anne Frank The Play Literature Anthology pgs. 450-512 Directions: In an effort to incorporate more students in the reading of The Diary of Anne Frank, we have decided that it would be best for us to divide into smaller groups to read the diary. While you work in your group (or “cast”), you and your members will complete the reading each day AND complete the given tasks. Assessment: Similar to when we worked in SciFi literature circles, your group will occasionally be graded according to teacher observations throughout each working hour. You will be graded individually on your “character” work pages. Each group member will also take a quiz after Act I and after Act II. Teachers’ Expectations: All students will work with their group, collaborating, reading, discussing, analyzing, and working together to understand the play. All students will arrive to class promptly ready to begin working with their group. All students will incorporate all members of their “cast” in the reading. All students will read with effort, in character, and with appropriate voice so others can hear. All students will maintain a high level of respect to their peers and interest in the tasks given to the group. All students will equally contribute to the group reading, discussion, and tasks. All students will fairly review each other’s performance during each reading/working session. Group Expectations: Once you are given a group, you should work with other group members to decide upon expectations that you will have. You should consider how you would answer the following question: What do we need to do/act like to ensure that we (1) use our time wisely, (2) stay on task, (3) learn about Anne Frank, (4) complete all tasks? The group must come to a consensus about who will play which role. The roles that have two characters mean that you will play both characters. You will complete ONE character page PER character. So, although you have fewer speaking roles, you will have more writing than the others because you will be writing about two characters. Group Members: SAVE these pages! GROUP WORK EVALUATION As you work and read aloud, your group members must provide a grade for your group each meeting day. You and your group members must grade yourselves according to the expectations at the front of the packet. Rate entire group each day depending on how efficient and effectively you used your time. You should spend the last 2 minutes of your “reading time” evaluating yourselves. Rating Scale: 1 = most effective and efficient; 5= least effective and efficient Rationale: Provide at least two bullet-points that justify your response. *Each group member should take a turn doing this (i.e. we should see different handwriting on this).
