(Revised May 2012)
Application Deadlines: You may submit grant proposals on an ongoing basis.
Applications will be reviewed on the 2nd and 4th Monday of every month through May 18, 2013.
Applications must be for projects that stimulate innovative approaches to
teaching and learning. Funding is not provided for Harper College undergraduate
course development. Funding is available to pay for activities that support
innovative curriculum development.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
1. The basis of all applications must be a project that stimulates innovative approaches
to teaching and learning that create an impact on students.
2. Awards are generally $2,500 or less.
3. Please compute professional planning time at $18 per hour.
4. Money for outside consultants can be included but must be reasonable.
5. We will fund retreat stipends or registration fees, but not both.
6. Conference attendance will be considered if it is integral to the development of innovation.
7. We will consider funding the expense of one conference attendance per department per
conference for registration, travel, meals, etc., but applicants may split the grant between two
or more people. On a funds available basis, support for teams to attend conferences will be
considered.
8. Applicants requesting funding to attend a conference must include a copy of the conference
brochure with the application.
9. We will fund the expenses associated with the presentation of one professional paper on a
classroom research project per year per applicant.
10. Applicants requesting funding to take a course must demonstrate that course outcomes are
tied to innovative teaching and learning strategies. Include a copy of the course description
with the application.
11. There is a limit of two applicants per department for funding for tuition for graduate classes.
On a funds available basis, support for larger teams to attend graduate courses will be
considered.
12. Applicants must discuss the grant with both the department chair/coordinator and the
divisional dean. Both chairs/coordinators and deans must write a brief response.
13. Please make sure you have answered all of the questions. Please do not omit any. It will
only delay the approval process. Incomplete applications will be returned.
14. All activities must be completed and reports submitted by May 18, 2012.
Note: Some items are subject to tax. All stipends are taxable regardless of the source of funds
used to pay a stipend. Tuition reimbursement is non-taxable.
