Portfolio Grading Rubric: Use this to guide your self-evaluation statement on the assessment page of the portfolio. All portfolios must have five pages: About Me, Comments (blogLog), Glossary, Assessment, Term Paper Term Paper Content (25%) Term Paper Mechanics (25%) “A” range The author presents an interesting and original thesis. The author presents persuasive and creative arguments. The author demonstrates a clear understanding of the text. “B” range The author presents a clear thesis. The author presents clear premises with supporting discussion. The author demonstrates adequate knowledge of the texts. “C” range The author has a thesis. The author has premises that support the thesis. The author shows some familiarity with the texts. All the requirements of B, plus: The paper is formatted perfectly as per assignment. There is substantial supporting documentation, appropriately cited. No grammatical errors/typos. Sophisticated, college-level writing style (excellent vocabulary, easy to read). Quotes and paraphrases are cited (page, paragraph, etc.). The paper format is correct for the most part. Parts 1&2 come together seamlessly. 13 reading blogs (300 words) submitted ON TIME. Few grammatical errors/typos. Clear and fluid writing style (short, uncomplicated sentences with obvious meanings). Quotes are cited (page, paragraph, etc.). Additional sources are provided in the bibliography. Blogs reflect a close reading and correct interpretation of the text. Short, relevant quotes given as needed and cited for support. Examples are usually given. Reflection/response is always given. Blog Content (10%) All the requirements of B, plus: Blogs are interesting and insightful. Claims about the philosopher are supported by evidence and argument. Original examples and/or applications to personal experience are provided. The paper format shows a good faith effort to follow the assignment. There are some grammatical errors/typos Writing is occasionally unclear, but still communicates a message. Quotes are cited (page, paragraph, etc.). Additional sources are provided in the bibliography. Blogs demonstrate a close reading of the text (not just the introduction), although there may be some mistakes in interpretation. Response to the philosophers is not always provided, or it shows limited reflection. Some examples are given, but they are not very helpful. Blog Comments: 5% Glossary: 5% Participation B requirements, plus: The student often contributed interesting, insightful comments, questions, and examples. The student often volunteered to go above and beyond other students in class. The student refrained from monopolizing discussion. The student was always present and always listening. 13 reading blogs (300 words) submitted ON TIME. Few grammatical errors/typos. Clear and fluid writing style (short, uncomplicated sentences with obvious meanings). Quotes are cited (page, paragraph, etc.). Additional sources are provided in the bibliography. Helpful comments posted each week on time (total of 26). Comments with substance, usually on time (total of 20-26). 20-30 words Definitions are cited or the origin is noted. 20 words Definitions are cited or the origin is noted.
