GENERAL REQUIREMENTS AND ADVICES
Spanish Language level: minimum B2 at EILTS standard for all faculties.
English taught classes: some faculties do have subjects in English. In case students are willing to take English
taught classes they should present an English certificate. Please note that usually there is no enough
English taught classes to complete a full semester (30 ECTS) in this language.
Attendance: attendance is mandatory for all subjects at UIC, it’s responsibility of the student not to take
subjects that overlap in his/her schedule.
Learning agreement: students are allowed to change the learning agreement within the first weeks after their
arrival. There will be NO changes to the learning agreement or the enrollment for following semesters.
FACULTIES’ SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
FACULTY OF MEDICINE AND HEALTH SCIENCES

Degree in Medicine
Language: Classes are held in Spanish, students are required to have sufficient level in order to follow the
lessons and write exams in this language. The minimum level accepted will be B2 for EILTS standard or
Intermediate D.E.L.E level.
Subjects: The faculty will only accept students up to 4th course and only in the subjects available in the
academic curriculum of the degree so far.
** Please note that the degree in Medicine was implemented in 2008/2009 academic year. Therefore at this
point we only have the first 4 years available for exchange students.
Placements or Practical periods: This faculty allows students to do practical periods and practical subjects.
Students willing to do so should contact the university with enough time in order to study the
possibility.
** Also note that the Hospital General de Catalunya is not part of the university although we share the same
facilities.

Degree in Physiotherapy
Language: Classes are held in Spanish, students are required to have sufficient level in order to follow the
lessons and write exams in this language. The minimum level accepted will be B2 for EILTS standard or
Intermediate D.E.L.E level.
Placements or Practical periods: Please note that this faculty will not offer placements to exchange students.

Degree in Nursing
Language: Classes are held in Spanish and Catalan, students are required to have sufficient level in order to
follow the lessons and write exams in this language. The Spanish minimum level accepted will be B2 for
EILTS standard or Intermediate D.E.L.E level.
Subjects: The academic curriculum for this degree is divided into practical periods and theoretical periods
(that don’t overlap).

It is essential to take the exam in order to pass the theoretical part of the syllabus.
Placements or Practical periods:
This faculty allows students to do practical periods and practical subjects.
Students willing to do so should contact the university with 4 months in advance in order to find him a
suitable institution for its placements.
The student should remain for a period of 15- 30 days in the faculty before moving to his place of practice.
During this time the student will get to know the peculiarities of the Catalan and Spanish Health
System, goals and skills to acquire. The student should also be informed about the rules of practice for a
proper monitoring and verify their skills and abilities to carry out nursing procedures.
Each workshop has a duration of 4 weeks (35 hours Monday – Friday). The hours of the student must match
that of his/her practice tutor and his/her attendance is mandatory. The value of each practical period
or workshop is 15 ECTS.
To be able to accept an Exchange student in the program of Nursing at the UIC must sign and accept these
conditions to ensure the responsible of the practice the continuity of the studying during the period
agreed.
Equipment. Students are required to wear the official practice uniform from the UIC (60€ approx).
Medical report (vaccines certificate): students must submit an official medical certificate showing that is
vaccine against: Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Diphtheria, TBC or Mantoux negative.
FACULTY OF DENTISTRY

Degree in Dentistry
Language: Classes are held in Spanish, students are required to have sufficient level in order to follow the
lessons and write exams in this language. The minimum level accepted will be B2 for EILTS standard or
Intermediate D.E.L.E level.
Placements or Practical periods: This faculty allows students to do practical periods and practical subjects at
the Dentristry Clinic (CUO).
400 Euros for Deposit. Students can either bring their own equipment or pay a deposit of 400 Euros in
order to borrow one from the university. This deposit will be returned to the student at the end
of their stay, as long as all the equipment is in proper conditions.

FACULTY OF ECONOMICS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Degree in Business Administration
Language: classes in this faculty are held either in Spanish or English. Students willing to take Spanish taught
classes are required to present the official D.E.L.E certificate with a minimum level of Intermediate.
Students willing to attend English classes should present the official EILTS certificate with minimum B2
level or its equivalent in TOEFL exam.
Subjects: Students should enroll for a minimum of 20 ECTS per semester.
Some subjects might have a limitation of places.
Schedule: No overlapping is permitted. Students should attend to all classes for all subjects.

Placements or Practical periods: Please note that this faculty will not offer placements to exchange students.
If the students find its own Institution to do the placement, the faculty will help arranging the
documents and training agreement.
FACULTY OF HUMANITIES

Degree in Humanities & Cultural Studies
Language: Most Classes are held in Spanish, students are required to have sufficient level in order to follow
the lessons and write exams in this language. The minimum level accepted will be B2 for EILTS standard
or Intermediate D.E.L.E level.
Subjects: Subjects from this faculty are open to all Exchange students even from other faculties. Students can
enroll in Humanities classes in order to complete their ECTS in the learning agreement.
Spanish and Catalan language subjects in this faculty are meant for native students, exchange students are
not allowed to take them.
SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE (ESARQ)

Degree in Architecture
Language: Classes are mostly held in Spanish, students are required to have sufficient level in order to follow
the lessons and write exams in this language. The minimum level accepted will be B2 for EILTS standard
or Intermediate D.E.L.E level.
Subjects:
**Please note that in Spain Architecture degree includes the technical part and not only the designing
side of it. Therefore students who have not taken technical classes before (such as Construction,
Structures, Facilities, Projects, Composition, Urban planning) are strongly advice to choose
subjects from inferior courses. Your academic UIC coordinator will guide you with the election of
these subjects.
The subject Vertical workshop at the beginning of the year is highly recommended for Exchange
students.
Learning agreement: In the second semester, full year students are allowed to perform changes into the
original learning agreement approved at the beginning of the year.

FACULTY OF COMMUNICATION SCIENCES



Degree in Advertising & Public Relations
Degree in Audiovisual Communication
Degree in Journalism
**The faculty will only accept those students who are currently studying Communication Sciences in their
home institution. Students from other faculties may not take subjects from this faculty.
Spanish Level: Most classes in the three degrees are held in Spanish, students are required to have sufficient
level in order to follow the lessons and write exams in this language. The minimum level accepted will
be B2 for EILTS standard or Intermediate D.E.L.E level.
English taught classes: Students willing to take English taught classes should present an official English
certificate with B2 level at EILTS standards or equivalent TOEFL.

Theoretical classes.
Students should only take Theoretical classes.
Students are adviced that some journalism classes require a high level of Spanish.
First year classes are not open for Exchange students.
Practical classes
Students willing to take practical classes should demonstrate through their Transcript of Records they
have taken practical lessons before and they have previous knowledge of editing, mixing,..
Students will pass a level test with the academic coordinator before signing practical classes in the
learning agreement.
Students will pay a deposit in order to use the equipment. This money will be returned upon finalization
of the subject.

Degree in Law
Degree in Political Science and Public Administration
Degree in Criminology (2nd cycle)
Language: Classes in the three degrees are held in Spanish, students are required to have sufficient level in
order to follow the lessons and write exams in this language. The minimum level accepted will be B2 for
EILTS standard or Intermediate D.E.L.E level.
Subjects: enrolment in “English for lawyers” is not open for exchange students. Only students staying whole
academic year will be allowed to enroll in “Public International Law”
Placements or Practical periods: Please note that this faculty will not allow placements to exchange students.



Degree in Pre-school Education
Degree in Primary Education
**Classes in both degrees are held in Catalan at the moment. We strongly recommend students coming from
Teacher Training degrees to pick up classes from another faculty.
