Mitosis Web Quest
In this internet lesson, you will review the steps of mitosis using step by step animations of cell division.
You then view an onion root tip and calculate the percentage of cells at each of the stages of cell division.
Step 1: Mitosis OVERVIEW
Go to my website on the MFHS website. Click on Mitosis Webquest & then click on Step 1. Watch the
animation & click next. Then read the information below the animation to answer question 1.
1. Name the two reasons shown for cell division.
Click on Basic Cell Parts and scroll down to centrioles to answer question 2.

Go back to my website. Now click on Step 2: Mitosis Animation. Click open and when the file box comes
up, double-click on the mitosis file. Click run when the security box comes up and the animation should
open up.
1. In what type of cells does mitosis occur?
Click “For an Example”. Then click on “What is Mitosis?”
You are now viewing a circle that represents a cell’s life cycle. Move around the circle and describe what
happens in each part of the cycle. Put the cursor over the Interphase G1, then the Interphase S, then the
Interphase G2

4. Describe what happens in the Interphase, G2 phase
Next put the cursor over the 5 primary phases of mitosis and summarize what occurs in each phase:

Click on “Contents”. Click on the “Interactive Mitosis Animation”. Adjust the speed to slow.
View the video and familiarize yourself with the movements of the chromosomes during each phase of
mitosis.
10. Do a simple sketch of each phase below. Label each sketch.

*Read the “assignment” then hit “next”
