Lesson Title: Hero’s Journey
Materials: Paper, Pen
Objectives: TEKS11E- Reading/literary concepts. The student analyzes literary elements
for their contributions to meaning in literary texts. The student is expected to: analyze the
development of plot in narrative text; (A) recognize the theme (general observation
about life or human nature) within a text; (B) analyze the relevance of setting and time
frame to text's meaning; (C) analyze characters and identify time and point of view;
(D) identify basic conflicts;
Anticipatory Set: “Journal Question #3”
Objective Purpose: The students will understand the literary devices in “The Odyssey.”
The will also be able to understand how myths relate to a civilization’s culture, morals,
and religion.
Input:
 The teacher will go over “I Am Laertes’ Son” and “Lotus Eaters.”
 The teacher will go over their Epithet Poems.
 The teacher will go over The Odyssey Packets.”
Check for Understanding:
 The students will draw their map of Ithaca and the Land of the Lotus Eaters.
 The students will complete the Summary about “Ithica and the Land of Lotus
Eaters.”
 The students will go over their Journal Question #3.

Closure:
