Onomatopoeia – A word that imitates the sound it represents.
Personification – Gives human qualities to animals or objects.
Alliteration – The repetition of initial consonant sounds in the neighboring words
Symbolism – Using an object or action that means something more than its literal meaning.
Paradox – Reveals a kind of truth which at first seems contradictory.
Hyperbole – An exaggeration or overstatement.
Simile – A comparison of two unlike things using “like” or “as”.
Metaphor – A comparison of two unlike things using the verb “to be” and not “like” or
“as”.
Allusion – A causal reference to a famous historical or literary figure or event.
Imagery – Language that evokes one or all of the five sentences.
