Description: Paradfurdo is a small village situated at the Mountains Matra, in an environmental
protected area. This is extremely rich in natural resources, diverse forms of surface treasure, botanical
and zoological curiosities characterized. Longer hiking or cycling tours available, and the Lake Trout is
not far from the camp. So many variety of water resource area is located. Parád town is located in the
centre of Palóc rural village, where are a number of ethnographic and cultural-historical value.
Type of Work: The camp of wooden outdoor furniture, repairing fence, wooden houses of surface
treatment (grinding, painting) The national and EU sources, and our revenues from tourism recovery in
the camp of continuous improvement. A neighborhood schools, kindergartens are living in worse
financial circumstances, and we want to help the children. We work with helpers, and enthusiastic
dedicated professionals, who care for young people's fate. We welcome all volunteers who want to
make better and nicer our camp, and help to us the weather-worn wood surfaces re-turn to the
summer camp expect our children.
Study Theme: Optional excursions are:
1) Parádfürdő and its environment: getting acquainted with the highlights of the area (Parádfürdő,
Museum of cars, Erzsébet Park, Rákóczi-tree, Mária column) 2) The castle of Kanázs: trip to the ruins
of the fortress, visiting Recsk and a mine 3) Kékes(the biggest mountain of Hungary): all dayexcursions, for experienced walkers. (you can choose from different programs- Vörösmarty tourist
house, Lake Pisztrángos, Kőris- swamp) There's a possibility to go there by bus. 4) Ilona-valley:

Approximate Location: Parádfürdő Northern Hungary is located in the northern foot of the Matra

Notes: Study part and excursions will be decided by the participants, camp leaders and local partner

Description: The reception center of Siuntio was founded in Harjulinna in spring 2009. Its’ purpose is
to offer a place for underaged asylum seekers who come to Finland without their families. There are
approximately 30 - 40 children living in the center and a few families too. The reception center is in a
very idyllic countryside place and located about 40 kilometers west from Helsinki. Even though the
most common services are quite far, you can find for example a spa quite nearby in the middle of the
Finnish nature!
Type of Work: Spending time with the children in the reception center, organizing activities like games
or excursions in groups. Outdoor work and gardening. Helping with organizing a Midsummer's Eve
party for the inhabitants. Doing a big clean-up for the house and working in the kitchen.
Study Theme: About minor asylum seekers and local culture of Siuntio.KVT Finland organizes as a
part of Bridge Builders project a theme day in each camp that addresses issues around human rights,
global issues, peace and sustainable development.
Accommodation: Basic floor accommodation indoors.
Requirements: Not accessible for families or people with wheelchairs. Previous experience about
organizing activities to teenaged children could be helpful but is not obligatory.

Description: The school in Mnkhanya Community in Mfuwe was started in 2005 and while there has
been progress, it hasn’t been much. The school carters for the children within the community who
have to walk long distances to reach the nearest school. Mnkhanya Community School is also
located in Mfuwe.
Type of Work: IN 2012 the project will help the community in constructing a one-by-three classroom
block. This will ensure that three different grades don’t share the same classroom at the same
time as is the case now.
Accommodation: The participants will be accommodated at the school. There are adequate
sanitation facilities at the campsite. The participants will cook their own meals.
Notes: We hope that the Community Resource Board which looks after the school and the parks will
organize a day trip to the South Luangwa National Park.
This project is part of the SCI North South Programmes. Volunteers should be 20 years old, have
previous volunteering experience and take part in the Preparation Workshops organised by their

Description: After an initial three-day training, participants will travel across Europe to organise
different peace-education activities (workshops, presentations, street actions...), in collaboration with
local branches. The Peace Caravan will take place from July 1st to September 13th, with four teams
travelling each three weeks, across three or four countries. The third group will start in Austria on the
6th of August and continue in Hungary, UK, Belgium and finish in Germany – visiting workcamps,
doing streetactions and addressing different topics in all the visited countries.

Study Theme: The participants will develop their understanding of peace and what prevents and what
supports it, and will also develop their peace education skills.

Peace and NonViolence in Ghilarza

Description: This project is the result of the collaboration between a local group of SCI (SciSardegna)
and two associations:"Casa per la pace" and "Nonviolent Movement". Both the associations work in
the Casa per la Pace from many years promoting seminars and meetings on nonviolence and peace.
Aim of the camp is open all these activities to the people of Ghilarza involving in the workcamp
children and young people. Ghilarza is a small, ancient and beautiful town in the centre of Sardinia. It
is near the lake Omodeo and has a population of about 5000 people and it is a very active cultural
centre
Type of Work: The manual work involves some renovating work and painting inside the house and
the removal of bricks and cement from the old brick factory around the courtyard. At the same time
some game on the theme of nonviolence and peace will be carried out with the children of the town.
Study Theme: The study part in this camp will be very important as two trainers of the Nonviolent
Movement will train the volunteers and the young peolple of Ghilarza on the theme of a nonviolent
economy and the opposition to war and discrimination.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in the Casa per la Pace, a two storey house in the centre of
Ghilarza. The house is fully equipped with bedrooms with bunk beds, two kitchens and three
bathrooms.
Language: English, Italian
Requirements: Volunteers should be flexible and adaptable. Volunteers really interested in the
nonviolent method and in working with children on this theme are welcome. Some knowledge of Italian
would be of great help.
Approximate Location: Ghilarza is a small town in the centre of Sardinia and the 131 highway links it
with the major ports fo Sardinia, Cagliari, Olbia and Porto Torres. The nearest airport is CagliariElmas airport. .

Description: 'Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland Nurturing Empowerment' (SHINE), is an annual
residential Summer Independence Training Project which caters for teenagers and young adults
with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus (www.sbhi.ie). The primary aim of SHINE is to encourage
participants to develop their independence and social skills in a fun and safe environment whilst
also offering valuable respite for participants.
Type of Work: Includes encouraging and supporting participants in every way so that they have a
confidence building and fun experience, assisting participants with personal care, taking part in
activities and encouraging participants to take part, ensuring physical and emotional safety of
participants, kitchen duty – setting up and clearing away after mealtimes (this is done on a rota
basis), clamping wheelchairs onto buses (training provided). Volunteers and team members
always work in pairs when helping participants. Training will be provided by SBHI at the beginning
of the week.
Study Theme: Health, Education, Social Care, Disability Awareness, Occupational Therapy
Accommodation: Dorms or twin rooms. Meals provided by the centre
Language: Very important: Advanced to fluent English is essential in order to be able to communicate
with the participants

essential as training is provided.

Description: Sports summer centre “Boyko school” is situated in a picturesque place on the bank of
the lake, 30 km from Kharkiv (second largest city in Ukraine and its first capital), eastern part of
Ukraine. The Center was founded in 1987 on the territory of the former duke’s estate. On the
territory of the Center there is a pond with a lot of fish – so you can go fishing there. There also
are stables with 12 horses, a riding school for children. The camp hosts about 200 children at a
time. The camp works by the program of the summer English language school.
Type of Work: Each volunteer will be accommodated together with one Ukrainian leader in the camp
next to children rooms. The main task of the volunteers will be to help in organising everyday life
of the camp and leisure time activities, such as workshops, sport competitions, contests, activities
connected with culture, history, traditions of the volunteers’ countries. The volunteers will also
assist teachers in teaching English in the course of lessons. Volunteers will not be provided with a
ready plan for the lessons or activities. Everything is up to the volunteers.
Accommodation: Volunteers will be accommodated in rooms with 4 beds. Simple accommodation;
toilet and shower with warm water are near the rooms. Food will be provided in the camp canteen
three times a day.

Approximate Location: The camp in SOS Children s village is organized for the 9th time this year. It
is situated in the Province Kotayk (15km from Yerevan). The SOS Children s Village is a place where
children-orphans found their new mothers, sisters and brothers and live in families. It is concerned
about all children, particularly those who have no parental care and those whose families have to live
in difficult conditions. 6-7 children live in separate cottages with their SOS mothers. SOS Children s
village in Armenia is built and is financed by SOS-Kinderdorf international non-governmental social
development organization. The SOS Children s Village family-like structure is formed by four basic
principles: mother, brothers and sisters, house and village.This camp has become a popular and
traditional one and children are looking forward to meeting the volunteers in summer.

Description: Duha Dlažka is one of the many Duha local groups spread through Czech Republic. Its
open to youngsters, children, adults and families, and runs activities such as summercamps, sport
weekends and events related with sports and board games.
Type of Work: Work on camp background: 1. cleaning wood and camp, 2. painting small huts, 3. help
with digging 4. help with repairing.
Study Theme: Sports,games,arts and lot of outdoor and indoor games, sport of all kinds as football,
volleyball, table tennis, ringo and many funny and crazy games.
Accommodation: Bungalows with 4 beds – we recommend your own sleeping bag, but if necessary,
linen and blankets are provided. Electricity, WC and showers are in the camp.
Language: The main language for all work camp and therefore for program is English language. If
some problem appears, there will be Czech and Russian speaking leader.
Requirements: Take for granted that our action is without any drugs for all. Smoking is forbidden in
the camp (only in special place for smokers outside of the camp).

Approximate Location: Rajnochovice is a village and municipality (obec) in Kroměříž District in the
Zlín Region of the Czech Republic. The municipality covers an area of 41.45 square kilometres (16.00
sq mi), and has a population of 497 (as at 3 July 2006). Rajnochovice lies approximately 33 kilometres
(21 mi) north-east of Kroměříž, 23 km (14 mi) north-east of Zlín, and 256 km (159 mi) east of Prague.

Into the bear forest

Description: Velebitska udruga Kuterevo (VUK) was founded in 1995 and since it works for the
preservation of natural and cultural heritage. In 2002 the brown bear (Ursus arctos) refuge was
founded and today the village hosts more than 20 000 visitors and 200 volunteers per year. Besides
the bear refuge, the volunteer station was founded as a place for cultural exchange and sustainable
living education.
This workcamp have two main goals: improve the quality of natural areas around the village of
Kuterevo for wild fauna and allow a team of volunteers to live in the wild and learn about nature.
Type of Work: In Velebit, local wild life suffers from a lack of water, because the karstic ground. Also,
most of the open fields slowly become forests because less traditional grazing with livestock. In this
way all specific species of mountain meadows disappear. So we will work on one of two projects: •
creating water pools for animals in the forest in order to improve the quality of natural habitats or •
working on pasture restoration in the borders of grasslands and cut bushes and trees which are
growing up in the field boundaries. Volunteers will also build wooden birds, bats and insects houses.
Study Theme: Because the goal of the workcamp is to act for nature conservation, volunteers will
have the opportunity to learn about the wilderness of Velebit and nature (botany, ornithology,
mammology, geology…). As well the way of living, during these two weeks, will be an authentic
occasion to learn about lifestyle close to nature.
Accommodation: Volunteers will sleep in tents, cook on fire, take shower in the forest and…shit in
compost toilets! The camp has a drinkable water point, but nobody should hope any kind of
comfortable bathroom. Tents will be provided. Sleeping bags necessary. Participants need to keep in
mind that they will live in a mountain climate area, were even in the middle of the summer the night
can be truly cold.

Approximate Location: Volunteers will live in an isolated camping site in the forest, situated at 770 m
of altitude, and 3 km far from the bear refuge of Kuterevo, in the region of Lika. This place is a part of
the huge and wild forest of Velebit mountain, were especially live wolfs (Canis lupus), bears (Ursus
arctos) and lynx (Lynx lynx).
Notes: As a community living in the wild, volunteers will have to organize there every day life in the
forest. Some of the every days activities will be collecting wood, herbs and wild fruits as well improving

Description: Theatre of the oppressed has been created in Brasil by Augusto Boal. It aims at making
injustices visible and training people to struggle against it. This year SCI Belgium organizes a
workcamp around that theatre form, more particularly the forum theatre.
Type of Work: The workcamp will be an 8-day workshop about gender issue, gathering 10
participants, from different social and cultural backgrounds, half Belgian, half international. It will

Description: BASIDA is an NGO that provides medical and psychosocial support to HIV-positives and
drugs addicted persons. Since 1987, it has opened three centres, all of them run by a multiprofessional voluntary staff. The physical and psychological recovery as well as the social
rehabilitation of Basida residents are being achieved thanks to close teamwork focused on
proving them that someone really cares for them. Basida team tries to help those attending the
centre, that for long time have only experienced social exclusion, to regain hope and self-esteem.
Type of Work: Participating in the everyday life of the Centre, mainly giving a hand with the
maintenance of the place (cooking, doing the laundry, cleaning, helping with the carpentry or
gardening on a rotating basis, etc.). Personal care of residents who might need it (such as
helping out to get dressed) is also a possible task, but only if you really feel prepared for doing it.
An important part of your stay will be socialising with the community of the centre.
Study Theme: A workshop on drugs and HIV, socio-medical approach: “Guide to abilities of care and
relation with HIV-AIDS patients”, is organised during the first week.
Accommodation: In the Centre there are rooms with 2 bunk beds for the volunteers (possible mixed

Description: Sandermosen Station is a part of a foundation called KulturBANEN (The Cultural
Railway), a foundation which is working to use trains as a connection between different cultural
activities along the railway between Oslo Central Station and Gjøvik Railway Station. The goal is to
make all the stations along this railway “cultural stations” with different cultural contents and offers,
and to make the surrounding forest more available for people by building paths and bicycle roads
connecting the stations.
Type of Work: Building a mobile stage, help renovating the kiosk in the station building and the
garage for the rail tricycle. Work includes clearing the path to the station, building small bridges and
getting benches in place, as well as preparation of signs. As this is a cultural station, there will also be
possible to work with cultural activities which can be performed on the last night (theatre, dance,
music, etc). Musical instruments are very welcome. The station has guitar, piano and a baritone
available for the volunteers.
Accommodation: Basic living conditions, in the station building, outdoor too. Outdoor toilet.
Mattresses will be available. Bring a sleeping bag. If volunteers want it will also be possible to sleep in
open air or in tent/ caravan.

Description: SEEDS volunteers will be part of the annual music festival “Við Djúpið”. The festival is
held in the ‘capital’ of the West Fjords, Ísafjörður, around summer solstice every year. The event offers
series of concerts and master classes, which are held in close cooperation with the Iceland Academy
of Arts. During the last 8 years the festival has offered master classes and concerts with nation- and
worldwide known artists.
Type of Work: We will share all types of tasks related to the festival and the group will be split
according to the needs to give everyone the chance to try out different assignments. The input of
volunteers will make a big difference in making the festival an impressive cultural event.
Study Theme: The tasks include receiving guests at the airport, driving them, selling entrance tickets,
controlling at the entrances in the venues, helping during the classes and concerts, guiding and
assisting participants and audience, setting up the venues before and after the concerts and a wide
variety of many different duties. We are an integral part of creating a special festival atmosphere in
Ísafjörður and shall be prepared for flexible time schedule (like for evenings & weekends).
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay at a local house/school; volunteers will sleep on mattresses on
the floor and need to bring a warm sleeping bag.
Volunteers will be provided with food and be in charge of the cooking themselves.
Do not forget some traditional/typical food from your home country for the international evening.

Malaysia has been organising highly rated PVP workcamps for the past 6 years. It aims to Expose
Volunteers to the varied lifestyle and diverse culture of this Enchanting Equatorial Peninsular. The
country is a show case of unity in diversity - Malaysia, truly Asia.
The camp will be held over 3 contrasting Locations. Volunteers will Experience living and working in
Broga,a rural organic farm, Taiping,a town called "Everlasting Peace" and finally in Penang, a
UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Type of Work: Light farm work at an Organic / Nature Farm, some maintenance and /or paintwork at
a Historic "Peace" Town, help out at the Penang 22nd Peace Run for about 2000 Able and Disabled
participants - Volunteers are encourage to run as well.
Work are usually done in the morning and first half of the afternoon. Local tours and visitations will be
organised if weather permits. One of the town we will be staying is the wettest in the country.
