PNL 03/2010 April 26, 2010 Dear Confreres We are in the glorious Season of Easter, the Season that comprises of the days which passed between the Lord’s Resurrection and His Ascension. They were by no means uneventful; during these days great sacramental mysteries were confirmed and great truths revealed. These were the days when the fear of death with all its horrors was taken away, and the immortality of both body and soul was affirmed. It was then that the Lord breathed on all his Apostles, filled them with the Holy Spirit and sent them to the ends of the earth, entrusting to them the care of His flock. The Season of Easter sets the tone for us at this juncture when some of us, like the Apostles, will have to wind up the work we were engaged in and take up new responsibilities while others imbibing the fervor of the Apostles, will have to carry on with their ministries with greater zeal and vigor. Surely some of you will experience being ‘led to the places where one would rather not go.’ The birth always has its pangs and so do the new beginnings. We as a Province are on the anvil to take up the new mission in Taiwan. We are also engaged in evaluating and reviewing our formation programme. In the coming weeks most of us will be planning, trying to adjust to new situations and encountering new challenges. One thing that can carry us through is the assurance that the Lord has breathed upon us and filled us with the Holy Spirit. While consolidation is the thrust of the Province, some questions that concern us are: ‘are we relevant?’ and ‘are we responding to the need of the time?’ These are more temptations than concerns. Henri J. M. Nouwern would advise us “to move from a concern for relevance to a life of prayer”, for the need of the hour is, holy leaders in whom people can trust and through whom the love of God can be experienced. St. Vincent Pallotti would rather tell us to grow towards having the mind of Christ. I entreat you to spend sufficient time with the Lord daily so as to experience Him deeply that we can emulate godliness in all our relationships and activities, as did the Apostles of our Lord. I appreciate your generosity and thank you for your understanding and cooperation. I wish each member who is newly appointed, transferred and those who have to continue the good work they have been doing, all the very best. May God bless you and give success in all that you plan and do! Fr. Susayan Sathyanesan, SAC Provincial 39.
