Travel Expenses Please note that the School will pay a maximum of £250.00 towards the cost of travel expenses per candidate (except for Academic (teaching and research) posts or Senior Administrative vacancies at Grade 9/AC4 or Grade 10/AC5 for three years duration or more). Candidates should take this into consideration when making their travel arrangements. Further information can be obtained from your HR Assistant. Original receipts and/or tickets must be attached to your form in support of your claims. Photocopies will not normally be accepted. After your interview, please return your completed form and receipts to: The Human Resources Department, The School of Oriental and African Studies, Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square, London, WC1H 0XG, UK. Payment will normally be made by bank transfer. Train Second class travel only will be reimbursed. When possible, off-peak trains should be used. Car The School will not normally pay for car mileage unless the cost is cheaper than the equivalent public transport fare - a written quote from the travel company will be required. Car mileage will be reimbursed at the rate of 40p per mile. Parking Please note that parking facilities around the School are very restricted and expensive, particularly at the Russell Square Campus. Disabled candidates who intend to travel by car should contact their HR Officer in advance to try to arrange access to the School’s disabled parking spaces if possible. Parking fees are at the candidate’s own expense. Congestion charge The School is unable to pay the congestion charge for candidates travelling by car to interview. In such cases, candidates should notify their HR Officer in advance of the interview. Overseas travel Candidates travelling from overseas are required to provide details of flights (cost, dates and times of travel, airline company and flight number) to their HR Officer for authorisation before booking their flight. The School will only reimburse the costs of economy class airfares which have been authorised by a member of the HR Department. Candidates are responsible for making their own visa arrangements to enter the UK (if required) and are advised to make the appropriate visa arrangements before finalising travel arrangements. Overnight accommodation The School will meet the cost of the overnight accommodation where this is necessary because of the distance a candidate has to travel to attend for interview. Candidates requiring overnight accommodation should contact their HR Officer who will book bed and breakfast accommodation for the candidate and provide them with the details. The School will not normally reimburse accommodation directly booked by candidates.
