In this lab there will be quizzes that count towards the lab grade. The 1st Lab starts on January 6, 2014. Exam Dates: Midterm: Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 09:30, Rm TBA Final exam: Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 09:00, Rm TBA Deferred Final: Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 09:00; students meet at 8:30 in CAB 357. Note: (1)There is no deferred midterm. If you have a valid reason for missing it, the weight of the midterm will be transferred to the final so that the final will then count for 80% of your grade. (2) Please consult your Faculty office for information on Deferred Final Exam Policy. (3) Reexamination : In addition to the requirements set out in section 23.5.5 of the Academic Calendar, students wishing to be considered for a reexamination must have, excluding the final, completed at least one-half of the term work. Term performance will be considered in the decision to grant a reexamination. Assignment Policy: There will be weekly assignments in this course that will be posted, together with the solutions, on the web page above. The assignments will be due every Friday at 4pm, starting on January 17, in the mailbox with my name on it on the 3rd floor of CAB. Final Remarks: (1) You are encouraged to have a look at old exams (available from the Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences). (2) Do not get behind. Do the homework, attend the labs. This is very important. (3) Try to learn the concepts, rather than just memorizing formulas. (4) There will be no formula sheet nor electronic aids allowed at the exams. As well, in the Faculty of Science the sanction for cheating on any examination will include a disciplinary failing grade (no exceptions) and senior students should expect a period of suspension or expulsion from the University of Alberta EXAMS: Your student photo I.D. is required at exams to verify your identity. Students will not be allowed to begin an examination after it has been in progress for 30 minutes. Students must remain in the exam room until at least 30 minutes has elapsed CELL PHONES: Cell phones are to be turned off during lectures, labs and seminars. Cell phones are not to be brought to exams.
