You have agreed to take Language Arts 10 Honors next year.
SUMMER READING and WRITING is required. You must commit to complete all
the Summer Assignments. You are responsible for submitting your Summer Assignments
in one of the following ways:
1. Deliver it to the school
2. Email: JPLander@dps.k12.oh.us (I will confirm your email.)
3. Mail assignment to the school, but it must arrive by the due date (mail it at
least 3 days before the deadline, do not mail it on the due date or the day
before the due date—it must arrive at school on the due date.).
Make sure the envelope is addressed, Attn.: Mr. Lander, LA 10 Honors
PART A: SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT must be completed and submitted
(in email) which chapter you are focusing on by June 15, 2012. If your work (Part A)
has not been received by this due date, you will be dropped from the class.
1. You need to read A Little History of the World by E. H. Gombrich
2. You need to select a chapter to write an Essay and create a Visual Presentation.
(You may not select chapter 1).
3. You will need to email Mr. Lander (JPLander@dps.k12.oh.us) to get his approval
for which chapter you will be addressing. You will want to provide the following
(Look at attachment for an example, make sure you use this as a template-It
should look exactly like the example):
a. The Chosen Chapter
b. A Thesis Statement
c. A Rationale Paragraph
4. Once approved, you may focus on the PART B of the Summer Assignment.
PART B: SUMMER WRITING ASSIGNMENT due by JULY 13, 2012. If your
work (Part B) has not been received by this due date, you will be dropped from the class.
1. ESSAY: How does the information in the chapter contribute to the History of
the World? Write an Essay on the chapter that you have selected which was
approved through Mr. Lander. Make sure that you are not writing a summary or
paraphrase. Make sure to include contextual evidence from the book with proper
citation, for example: “The Stone Age began before the last Ice Age had
ended”(Gombrich 3). Include one outside source from another book or Internet
(do not us Wikipedia) to give support to your topic.

PART C: SUMMER VISUAL PRESENTATION due AUGUST 15, 2012.
1. VISUAL PRESENTATION of the chapter you selected with ONE PAGE
DETAILED DESCIPTION: Create a Visual Presentation on the chapter of the
assigned book. This presentation should provide information of the history of the
world. Be as creative as possible. This can be in the form of

c. Poster-Board (for example, a Collage)

PART D: TEST OVER THE COMPLETE BOOK ON AUGUST 15, 2012. You will
take a test over the E. H. Gomrich’s A Little History of the World. You want to make sure
that you have read the book completely and be prepared for a test.
