Building a Lunar lander.
LO: To design, test, and evaluate a space lander.
1) How long does it take Earth to rotate on its axis:
A- 24 hours
B- 27 days
C- 365 days
2) How long does it take Earth to orbit the Sun?
A- 24 hours
B- 27 days
C- 365 days
4) What is the International space station?
A- Refuelling station for spacecraft
B- Collection of international satellites
C- Space laboratory shared by several
countries.
5) Give one advantage and one disadvantage
of a manned space mission.
6) Give one advantage and one disadvantage
of an unmanned space mission.
3) How long does it take the moon to orbit the
Earth?
A- 24 hours
Extension: explain why some people are

and
against
space
exploration.

Luna Lander
• Landing spacecraft is tricky.
• Travel 24,816 miles per hour.
• To land gently, these spacecraft
need to slow down before
touching the surface! And if there
are astronauts on board, the
lander needs to keep them safe,
too.
1. Each team of three students will build its own lander capsule,
designed to land within the target zone.
2. Choose the parachute and packaging material you will use around the egg.
Design and build your lander. Attach the parachute.
3. Record the time it takes for the egg lander to reach the ground.
• A drop is successful if the egg does not crack.
Data and Results
1. List the packaging material used. Which material and packing technique
worked the best?
2. Draw your design.
3. Time of the fall s
