During the period, 1953 to 1964 the college was supported by the Taiwan Provincial Government of the Republic of China (ROC). In 1979, we became a national institution, and were renamed as the National Taiwan College of Marine Science and Technology. A decade later, 1989, the college became a full-fledged university. At present, NTOU has six colleges-Maritime Science and Management, Life Sciences, Ocean Science and Resource, Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, as well as Humanities and Social Sciences. These Colleges house a total of 28 undergraduate departments and graduate institutes. As we look at the progress over the last 58 years, the University has undergone great growth and change and has been now recognized as one of the nation’s most important centers of learning and scholarship, especially in the marine sciences and maritime studies. Responding to the changing needs of society and the widening interests of our students, we are developing into a comprehensive university with a unique maritime focus. International Master’s Program in Aquaculture Technology and Management I. Introduction of Program 1. Object of Recruits The National Taiwan Ocean University is recruiting foreign applicants from aquaculture, Life Sciences, biochemistry or related field for the Master of Science (M.S.) program. The objective of the program is to train and cultivate foreign students to be specialists in the fields list above. 2. Program Duration The policy of the duration of the scholarship for master’s program is limited to two years. Foreign students should complete and successfully pass all courses and a master thesis within the two-year period, and receive the M.S. degree conferred by the Department of Aquaculture, National Taiwan Ocean University in accordance with the laws of ROC (Taiwan) Ministry of Education. If student fails to finish the requirements for the master's degree within the stipulated time period, the scholarship provided by the TaiwanICDF should not be extended. II. Qualification Foreign students majored in the fields related to those listed above graduated with bachelor degree from any national or registered private universities and independent colleges in ROC, or foreign universities and independent colleges having been accredited by the ROC (Taiwan) Ministry of Education. Acceptable equivalency in fields should be determined by the Director of the Department of Aquaculture. Foreign applicants, who are able to secure a prior guarantee from their respective agencies of service for retaining the job and associated salary during their studies at the National Taiwan Ocean University, will receive a preferential consideration at the selection process. III. Admission 1. Application Procedures The following items must be submitted with the application when applying to National Taiwan Ocean University: Two one-inch and ten two-inch frontal pictures, without hat or headband, taken within the last two months. Introduction--Stating the result of literature reviews as well as stating student's background, personal interest, strengths and weaknesses, if any. ii. Objective--Stating specifically the purpose of this research. iii. Action plans--Specifying the supportive research activities to be carried out to accomplish the objective as specified above. iv. Anticipated results--Stating the result that can be anticipated in conducting the action plans listed above. v. References--Listing pertinent references, if any. All the materials must be forwarded by the ROC (Taiwan) Embassy / Consulate General / Representative Office or Taiwan Technical Mission to the Department of Aquaculture, National Taiwan Ocean University. 2. Notification of Admission and Registration After being reviewed and approved by the Foreign Student Application Evaluation Committee, applications will be submitted by the President of the National Taiwan Ocean University for final approval. After being notified of admission, students must complete registration procedures within the specified time. Late registration will not be accepted. If there is untrue or falsified information, the student will be denied for admission. After registration, students must provide original diplomas. If the above documents were not written in English, English translation documents must be accompanied with the original documents. 3. Scope of Scholarship Entitlements:The scholarship including airfare, housing, tuition, credit fees, insurance, book costs and monthly allowance will be provided to each student. The scholarship is itemized as follows: Airfare -- The TaiwanICDF shall arrange your most-direct flights to and from Taiwan with Economy Class tickets. Housing -- All students must reside in the graduate student dormitory provided by the NTOU. Tuition fee -- Tuition fee will be paid as required by the NTOU. Credit fees -- Credit fees are varied with the number of credits registered. Credit fees will be paid as required by the NTOU. Insurance -- While in Taiwan, in addition to the mandatory student safety insurance as set by the Ministry of Education, each student should be insured for accidental. The insurance fees will be paid by the project. Book costs -- Purchasing textbooks as required by instructors shall be subject to the approval of the Director of the Department of Aquaculture. Allowance -- Each student shall receive NT$15,000 per month(NT$180,000 per annum)as allowance for food and miscellaneous living expenses. The sum will be deposited monthly into the student’s local bank account. 4. Notices M.S. Program students shall not take more than 12 credits per semester. However, under special circumstances, one additional class or 3 credits will be permitted with the approval of the Director of the Department of Aquaculture. A total of 15 credits per semester will be the maximum. M.S. Program students must complete a minimum of 24 credits in courses and 6 credits in thesis, which are calculated separately. The students will earn the “Master of Science” degree from the Department of Aquaculture after the full completion of studying. Graduate students under M.S. program are graded on a scale of 100 being the highest and 70 being the passing grade. Required courses, if failed, must be repeated. A student, who fails academically, judging from the averaged score for all the courses taken in a school year, shall be dismissed. Graduate student's ethic is graded on a scale of 100 being the highest and 70 being the passing grade. Anyone receives less than 70 shall be dismissed. For any reason a graduate student cannot attend class or other required activities, authorized leave of absence must be requested according to the school regulations. Program students of the same sex will be assigned to live in the same dormitory room. Observation of dormitory rules is a must. Graduate Students are required to work as teaching assistants. The nature and hours of work should be determined by the Director of the Department of Aquaculture. 5.
