1. Read the function of each of the structures listed in the table below. Structure Function Right Atrium Receives oxygen-poor blood from the body. Right Ventricle Receives oxygen-poor blood from the right atrium and pumps this blood to the lungs. Left atrium Receives oxygen-rich blood from the lungs. Left Ventricle Receives oxygen-rich blood from the left atrium and pumps it to all parts of the body. Valves Allow blood to flow in only one direction through the heart. Prevent backflow of blood. Septum Separates the two ventricles of the heart. Prevents oxygen-poor and oxygen-rich blood from mixing in the heart. Arteries Carry blood away from the heart. Major arteries: Pulmonary Arteries (to lungs) and Aorta (branches up and down to body). Veins Carry blood to the heart. Major veins: Superior Vena Cava and Inferior Vena Cava (from body to heart) and Pulmonary Veins (from both lungs to heart). 2. Label each of the structures listed in the table on the heart. Include the names of the major veins and arteries.Use page 536 in your book and video for help.
