MEMORANDUM FOR SEE DISTRIBUTION
SUBJECT: MOI for the 2d Quarter FY 08 Sergeant Audie Murphy Club (SAMC) & Dr.
Mary E. Walker Award selection Board for US Army Garrison-Yongsan (USAG-Y) and US
Army Garrison-Humphreys (USAG-H)
1. The 2d Quarter FY 08 US Army Garrison SAMC and Dr. Mary E. Walker Award Selection
Board will convene on 28 March 2008 starting at 0800, location is the IMCOM-Korea Region,
Command Conference Room (BLDG, S-4329), Yongsan. Transportation must be provided by
the nominating unit. Lodging is available on a space A basis at the Walker Center located on
South Post Yongsan. Email walkercenter@korea.army.mil or at DSN 736-1048 for
Reservations.
2. Induction and membership in the SAMC is a reward for NCOs whose leadership
achievements and performance merit special recognition. The SAMC is a means of recognizing
those NCOs who have contributed significantly to the development of a professional NCO Corps
and a combat-ready Army. Members exemplify leadership characterized by personal concern for
the needs, training, development and welfare of soldiers, and concern for their families.
3. PROCEDURES:
a. Commanders who recommend NCOs for membership in the SAMC will screen and
evaluate candidates prior to appearance before a BDE-level initial selection board. A sample
format for the commander’s evaluation/nomination is located in appendix G, EUSA Reg 672-3.
b. A DD Form 2266 (Information for Hometown News Release), a performance test of
the recommended individual, and an enlisted records brief (ERB) will be attached to the
commander’s evaluation/nomination.
c. The SAMC performance test is based on recorded accomplishments of the candidate
and his/her subordinates (when applicable) and must be attached as an enclosure to the
commander’s evaluation/nomination. A sample format of the performance test is located in
appendix H, EUSA Reg 672-3.
d. Initial Selection Board. Conduct a Battalion and Brigade-level Initial Selection Board
(Candidates will have 60 days left in country from the day of the SAMC board).

e. The Sponsor will be the Soldiers’ 1SG if not a Sergeant Audie Murphy Club member.
f. Nominees will bring their leaders book for review by the board members.
g. Nominees and their escorts will report to the board recorder at 0730 for briefing and
accountability. The uniform for the candidates and sponsors will be Class A with all authorized
awards and decorations (Female Soldiers may wear either skirt or slacks).
4. NOMINATION PACKETS FOR SAMC CANDIDATES: (Packets must be organized in the
following order :)
a. 5 X7 photo in Class A
b. Commander’s Evaluation/Nomination
c. Chain of Command recommendations (as a minimum the 1SG, Battalion CSM, and
Brigade CSM)
d. Candidate’s Bio
e. Updated copy of ERB
f. Copy of current Weapons Qualification Scorecard
g. Copy of APFT Score Card
h. Verified Height and Weight Data, current within 3 days (sign by 1SG or Cdr)
i. SAMC Performance Test
j. Bde Level Board Results (Scorecard)
k. One-page essay, written by the candidate in his/her own words on any one Army Value
l. DD Form 2266, Hometown News Release
NOTE: Submit packet in a white 1 inch binder with document protectors in the order listed
above.
Nomination packets are due by 17 March 2008 prior to 1600 hours. Submit completed packets
to MSG Henry, Meesoon C., Bldg. 4331, Yongsan (see enclosed map). LATE PACKETS
WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
5. The Dr. Mary E. Walker award is not part of the Department of the Army awards program
and should not compete with other established awards. It will not be used in lieu of awards for
commendation, meritorious service, or routine departure, or as an interim awards while awaiting
a Department of the Army award. Dr. Mary E. Walker award is not a short term or single event
recognition. An individual may receive only one award.

6. Eligible spouses who have distinguished themselves by outstanding volunteer service,
contributing to the mission of the Army and to the welfare of the Army family may be nominated
for the Dr. Mary E. Walker award (ref: EUSA Reg 672-3, award criteria).
7. After the Dr. Mary E. Walker award nomination packets are reviewed and selected and
endorsed by MSC CSM/Brigade CSM and Brigade Cdr, it will be forward to the IMCOMK Final Selection Board, which is the same selection board for the SAMC. The nominee
will not appear before the board.
8. Nominations will be in memorandum format, and will include the individual’s identification,
documentation of volunteer acts/service and justification for nomination, endorsement or
memorandum, signed by the appropriate commander (format appendix B, EUSA Reg 672-2).
9. MSC's CSM’s are designated board members. Uniform for board members will be
BDU’s/ACU’s. If you are unable to attend, notify CSM Kevin N. Witt to be excused no later
than two days prior to the board. It is the responsibility of the MSC CSM to designate an
appropriate board member if he/she is excused.
