Fall 2012 Blue Green Week Activities Monday (8/20/12): District Telepresentation – Completion by Design 9:00 AM G 401 Terry O’Banion Dr. Terry O’Banion was President of the League for Innovation in the Community College for 23 years until his retirement. Under his leadership the League became an international organization serving over 700 colleges recognized by Change magazine in 1998 as “the most dynamic organization in the community college world.” Since retirement O’Banion has worked on special projects for the League for Innovation, MetLife Foundation, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, The Chauncey Group International, and Walden University. From 2007 to January 1, 2011, Dr. Bumphus served as a professor in the Community College Leadership Program and as chair of the Department of Educational Administration at the University of Texas at Austin. He also held the A. M. Aikin Regents Endowed Chair in Junior and Community College Education Leadership. He previously served as president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) from 2001 to 2007. LCTCS later conferred upon him the title of President Emeritus of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. From November 2000 to September 2001 he was chancellor of Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC). Prior to joining BRCC, Dr. Bumphus worked in the corporate world serving as President of the Higher Education Division of Voyager Expanded Learning. Mandy Klem will provide lunch and share information about the program. The program is an on- campus mentoring program. 3rd and 4th graders from a local elementary school come to NLC campus every other Thursday, have lunch and interact with their NLC mentor. Last year 13 NLC employees and students participated in the program. We ate, played games, worked on reading and math, flew kites and many more activities to help these students grow. The purpose of the lunch session is to recruit mentors. Mandy will explain the program in detail and sign up members. This includes how to use tools and Microsoft accessibility checkers making it easier for faculty to check their documents for accessibility compliance. This is not the database orientation the library gives to students. While this does not include the Internet, I do have a few tricks up my sleeve for it as well if requested.
