Introduction/Teaching Methodology
The Course provides a fundamental understanding of computer applications with the course
focus on the Microsoft Office Applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft
PowerPoint, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Frontpage). This is a complete lab based course
where students will learn these applications by working on class assignments in the lab. The
course topics include Basics and Fundamentals of computer applications. Students will also be
covering the basic concepts in Computer Hardware, Software, Operating Systems,
Telecommunications, Databases, as well as the usage of the Internet and conversion of
Microsoft file format into various other file format(PDF, PS etc.).
Note: All assessments will be lab-based, as the course requirement is such.
Prerequisite: There is no prerequisite for this course.

All quizzes will be unannounced, and students should be prepared at all times.
Assignments: (10 marks)
News Items:
Every student would be required to present one or more news items during the semester. The
news item should be from any foreign/local magazine, newspaper, journal etc, or an article from
a magazine/newspaper/journal on the internet. The news item should be related to any latest
application that has been developed, or any changes or unique features that have been added
to an application, whether it is used at professional, educational, or home level.
Online/ Hands-on Assignments:
Online assignments will be given on a regular basis. These will be submitted on the respective
dates given by the instructor.
Note:
NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS will be accepted. All assignments are to be typed. Handwritten
assignments WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Project (10 marks): Will be decided by the instructor.

Any submitted work which is not your creativity should be accurately referenced with author,
source and date published. Evidence of work that is not your own and has been presented in
your name either because you failed to protect your work or you have stolen it from someone
else will lead to an F grade in this course. Such cases will be further referred to the Academic
Board to be dealt with as per IBA rules and regulations. Refer to IBA plagiarism policy for details.
