Element Experts -Group Project Element Experts in Team: ________________________________________________________ This project requires each student in your group to become an “Element Expert” on the element assigned to you. After learning all about your element and completing your Element Experts Square and informational essay, student groups will combine element information to create a group PowerPoint showcasing each element and the unique features of the family your group of elements represents. Due Dates: Element Experts Essay Element Experts Reference Sheet Element Experts Periodic Square Element Experts PowerPoint and Oral Presentation Element Experts – Element Essay Requirements Your element essay should be five paragraphs, word-processed, double-spaced, 12-point font and accompanied by references (see reference sheet). Your essay should include all the information located on the Element Experts essay requirements checklist. Complete your groups’ family information sheet below and incorporate the answers to the questions about YOUR FAMILY into your essay. Use the Element Experts Essay checklist as a guide to writing the five paragraphs and Chapter 3 in your textbook. Element Experts - Families Questions Alkali Metals: a. What is the group number? b. The PowerPoint includes a title slide, a Family information slide, four Element slides and a Reference slide. (See Grading Rubric) Each student in the group gets one slide on the PowerPoint that focuses on their element. Each element slide is required to have 2 graphics. (See Element Requirements Sheet) All the information from the element information sheet must be on the element slide. POWERPOINT PRESENTATION – Must have at least 7 slides (no more than 10) All requirements for the Element Square should be included in your PowerPoint presentation. (Provide detail and elaborate on each item) Make good use of graphics and animation (Note: too many sounds or special effects can be distracting to the audience.) Make sure your Internet search includes appropriate sites. (5 references minimum. See Grading Rubric) When presenting, be sure to speak toward the audience. Talk loud enough for the people in the back of the room to hear you. Share equal time. All group members must contribute equally – each student talks about their own slide information. Decide who want to read the title slide and the family information slide. Your presentation should be between at least 2 minutes in length. (No more than 4 min.) Be an expert on your element and be able to answer questions after the presentation. CLASS WIKI Go to: http://teamrscience.pbworks.com/TEAM-R-SCIENCE On our class wiki pages, you can write about your research and store files of images, music and PowerPoint slides. All the information the group collects will be ready to go into presentations! You can work from home or the homework club to organize and edit your group’s research and assignments. Collaborate with your group members to compile your PowerPoint slides together by uploading your slide after you have logged on with your username and password. Your teacher will assign you a wiki role from the chart below. Element Expert - Wiki Roles Wiki Role Communicator Skills Effectively communicate with teacher and peers. Responsibilities Set and keep deadlines and motivate others, set goals and deadlines. Locate and upload graphics and sound bites that are content appropriate for the presentation. Element Experts - Periodic Element Square Directions: The square must use the 8.5 x 11 colored construction paper in the portrait position. There must be a 3cm border of the construction paper color to keep the color-coded relationship among element families. Decorate all areas of your periodic element square using creative artwork that gives the viewer information of the element. Make any artwork/drawings/boarders relate back to the element. Use the Rubric for the Period Element Square for reference on the back. Picture Where? In upper left corner: Draw/paste a picture that represents your assigned element. The picture may show the structure of the atom and/or common uses of the element. Element Symbol Where? Middle of page: Paste the elements symbol directly in the middle of the paper. Atomic number Where? Upper middle: Use a black marker to write the atomic number in large print above element symbol. Element name Where? Below element: Write the element’s name in large print. Atomic mass Where? Below element name: Write the atomic mass in large print Element Experts - PowerPoint Presentation Evaluation Rubric NAME _____________________________________ PERIOD__________________DATE ____________________ Score 4 Task SUBJECT All 7 slides KNOWLEDGE & including a ORGANIZATION title slide, 5 sections and a reference slide are complete and in correct sequence APPROPRIATE 8 Graphics GRAPHICS are complete, explain and reinforce text and topic of presentation MUSIC Uses 3 or more appropriate sounds or music TIME 3 2 1 Missing 1 or 2 of the assignment requirements Missing 3 or more of the assignment requirements Missing 5 or more of the assignment requirements Points X_________ 4-6 Graphics support and relate to topic of presentation 2-3 Graphicssupport and relate to topic of presentation. 0-1 Graphicsdoes not support and X_________ relate to topic of presentation.
