Submitting Your Publishing Proposal: When submitting your publishing proposal, include the table of contents, brief professional bio, and if a sample chapter is available, include that as well. We will contact reviewers and request the return of their constructive comments within 2-3 weeks. Once reviews are received (normally 2-5 are solicited) the comments sans the reviewer’s name and affiliation will be provided. The comments should be seriously considered, and you will be asked to comment on their suggestions and remarks. As acquiring editors, we then prepare for our own proposal preparation and presentation of your book to our marketing, sales, and editorial staff for contract approval. We want your book to be successful. We spend a great amount of time reviewing your documents to insure we have a marketable product. We encourage you to include the fundamentals through the applications of your topic, and include figures, tables, and photographs. International affiliations from our authors, editors, and contributors from both academia and industry are encouraged. The manuscript should include as much original work as possible to avoid permissions, and should be written specifically for book publishing – not a collection of previously published articles. Familiarize yourself with our website at www.crcpress.com and seek out books that you feel will complement your proposed book. Let us know what you like or don’t like about our publications. Contract Approval: If we reach a positive contract approval, you will be contacted immediately and the terms of your contract will be supplied via post or a PDF document of our contract. You are encouraged to read the contract carefully and contact us with any questions you may have. The contract is a standard publishing agreement, but we want you to be comfortable with this process and are here to explain. If you have a co-author(s), all those receiving a royalty payment and credit as author or editor on the cover of the book will be asked to sign our author/editor agreement. If you are an editor and contributors will be participating, each contributor will be expected to sign a separate (one page) contributor agreement allowing us to include their chapter. Once you have read the contract and completed the signing page, you will return the contract(s) to my attention for processing. Each contract is executed by Nora Konopka, Publisher of Engineering and Environmental Sciences. With your fully-executed contract, you will receive guidelines for publishing your manuscript. We appreciate receiving your signed contract within 4-6 weeks (or sooner!) as this allows us to assign an ISBN number to your book. Depending on when your book is to be submitted, having this ISBN number allows us to catalog your book so we can begin accepting backorders and planning for the production process of your book. Project Coordinator Assignment to your Book: Within weeks of receiving your signed contract and assigning and ISBN number, you will be assigned to a project coordinator. The project coordinator will provide you information on: *Guidelines for preparing your text and figures *Reviewing sample chapters and artwork *Confirm that figures are in the highest quality resolution *Instruct on obtaining permissions *Confirm you are on track for manuscript submission delivery (this is key)! *Answer any questions concerning your manuscript before it goes to production The Production Process: After you have confirmed that your manuscript is 100% final and the writing has stopped, and you are confident in the product you are submitting, your book will be prepared for production. Once submitted, we consider your book final. Should you want a technical review of your book, this would need to be accomplished prior to submitting your final manuscript to CRC Press. Please keep in mind that the manuscript due date we are expecting from you will not allow for a technical review of your work. A project editor will now be assigned to your book and the process begins! We at CRC Press provide full production (copyediting, proofreading, page layout, indexing, and cover design). Your manuscript will be copyedited for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure. When your book enters production, depending on the size, it will take on the following publishing schedule: 500 manuscript pages or less publishes in 6 months. 500 – 900 manuscript pages publishes in 7 ½ months 900 – 1500 manuscript pages publishes in 7 ¾ months 1500 manuscript pages and over publishes in 8 ½ months Each book and situation is different of course, but the above are guidelines that are realistic. If you need your book to be available for a conference, course adoption, training seminar, let us know and we can try and be accommodating. We strive for high quality publications and we want you and our readers to be very satisfied with our work and our products. Following the guidelines for preparation of your manuscript in the beginning will help facilitate this production process greatly. Building a Relationship: As an acquiring editor, nothing is more important to me than my authors. I want to help you put on the market the best possible book, but I need your help. *Be firm with your commitment to complete your manuscript as scheduled *Let’s work together on the marketing and sales strategy for your book. *Keep me up-to-date with your conference speaking engagements *If you enjoy working with me, please recommend me to your colleagues. I am always seeking good books, and nothing is more flattering for me than your recommendation! *Consider the fate of the current book you are proposing in a few years. We want you to be enthusiastic about considering revisions, online products, and additional book ideas. Thanks very much for your time – I do appreciate it. Let me know if you have questions and I’ll be helpful – that’s what I’m here for. .
