Objectives of each network in brief: N.Wales To raise the profile of the importance of public involvement. To provide a forum to share information across organisations. Develop a directory of initiatives. Identify areas of good practice, learn lessons from the implementation of projects. S.E.Wales To establish and develop a network to steer, advise and support PPI. To work in partnership with official bodies to ensure consistency and clarity of purpose. To provide a forum for sharing and developing good practice. M&W.Wales To provide a forum to share good practice and to learn lessons from practice. Training, facilitation and development in PPI. Provide a supportive network for officers. USEFUL INFORMATION An email forum service to discuss various health issues including PPI is available for use on the HOWIS Intranet general web site. However if you are interested, I have come across the following web site which provides a similar service http://www.healthvoice-uk.net. The network exists to help people to have more of a say in planning and improving services that affect their health, it not only provides a forum to discuss various issues but provides the opportunity to share good practice and direct you to numerous reports and publications. Membership is free to all. PPI monitor is a monthly magazine, which is an essential tool for patient and public involvement. Each month it distils news, views, case studies, tool techniques and opinions to keep you at the leading edge of PPI. Volunteering for health, a research report produced for the Welsh Assembly Government in December 2004 by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action highlighted the research findings into the impact volunteers working in health care settings have. Since the last bulletin an important Welsh Health Circular has been issued. WHC (2004) 84, issued on 7th January 2005 entitled Shaping Health Services Locally: Guidance for involving and consulting on changes to health services. April 2005 saw the report of a scoping study for the Welsh Office for Research and Development in Health and Social Care – on the need for a patient, service user and public involvement research network in health, social care and well being services. Last month saw the launch of the new strategy Designed for Life: Towards World Class Health and Social Care for Wales in the 21st Century, which is set to create world class health and social care service in a healthy, dynamic country by 2015. The strategy outlines a change process based on clear principles where we will engage with patients, service users, staff and the wider public in making the transformation happen. A one-day event will be held in Birmingham on 13th or 15th September 2005 to provide colleagues with information, advice and practical guidance in involving patients in clinical audit. As well as attempting to establish an electronic library of good practice by receiving contributions to the attached template, I am also keen to create an electronic library of training aids.
