15th December 2004 Issue 1 Dear Colleagues, As an additional method of communication to the PPI Networks and PPI Web site, I thought I would issue this bulletin to all PPI contacts of Trusts & LHB’s. I would appreciate your thoughts, comments or suggestions on whether this would be a worthwhile exercise in the future. As you all know the Assembly recently approved a number of bids regarding PPI initiatives. In order to promote further collaboration and the sharing of practices, I thought it would be useful for you to know what the proposed projects are, along with the contact name at the Trust & LHB who are leading on these projects. Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust / Paul Jones “Development of community support for patients using health services provided by the Trust – focusing on a partnership approach to the development of the Trusts information centres and internet web site” Cardiff & Vale NHS Trust / Juliet Evans “A multi agency approach to improving the patient experience by listening to patients – purchase of a fully integrated survey software package” Conwy & Denbighshire NHS Trust / Vicky Russell “Learning from patients’ experiences - mystery patient project” North East Wales NHS Trust / Carole Condren “Engaging and developing staff – identify training needs and deliver training to partners in relation to patient and public involvement” Pontypridd & Rhondda NHS Trust / Barrie Ledbury “Develop joint PPI strategy, extend and support joint approach to other organisations” Swansea NHS Trust / Jo Prytherch “Development and improvement of the quality and access to information – 2 information centres and video targeted at ethnic minority groups” Velindre NHS Trust / Diane Smith “Develop public and patient training programmes for staff across screening services” Caerphilly LHB / Tracey Bryant “Develop a directory to outline the changes to current services with the implementation of the Wanless Local Action Plan” Ceredigion LHB / Sue Herds “Develop further a Health and Well Being Newsletter and E-Newsletter” Flintshire LHB / Nesta Rees “Develop Locality forums” Merthyr Tydfil LHB / Julie Keegan “To support the work of the PPI working group and the LHB in developing public awareness / public involvement sessions of service change issues” Pembrokeshire LHB / Caroline Oakley “Develop the consultation and engagement process with the public through the establishment of a citizens panel” For these successful bids, a request has been made that an evaluation report of the exercise needs to be produced to the Assembly, and this will be posted on the PPI web site. I would appreciate if those who were successful could confirm when I can expect a brief report. The web site requires a lot of work to make it an effective resource, what do you think should be on the web site? I would welcome your thoughts and suggestion. (NB www.wales.nhs.uk/ppi and http://howis.wales.nhs.uk/ppi). I would appreciate if you could assist in bringing the Assembly’s records up to date by emailing me your most recent PPI action/annual plan, which I can also post on the web site for others to read. I attach a template, which has been devised to act as a valuable resource to enable colleagues who are planning their own PPI Projects to learn from others. Please feel free to make as many contributions as you like. Maybe this can be linked in with the work of the PPI Networks? The next three regional Networks will take place as follows, if you haven’t done so already please confirm your availability to attend, please note that all minutes, agendas and TOR will be posted on both PPI web sites ASAP.
