Laboratory Support Assistant, Clinical Research Center

Overview:
The Laboratory Support Assistant provides laboratory support for the Clinical Research Center.
The Laboratory Support Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the collection and processing of
specimens for clinical research protocols and procedures.
Duties will include the processing of multiple blood and or tissue samples collected during research
tests, sorting, labeling, storing and sample distribution, protocol procedure set-up, operating glucose
analyzers during prolonged research testing procedures, and oversee general maintenance and quality

Overview:
The Ophthalmic Technician assists the ophthalmologists and optometrists in preparing patients for their
appointments by taking medical/ocular histories, performing standard entrance tests, visual acuity and
refraction as well as slit lamp examination of the anterior segment on patients. Will also provide support
to Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Center. May also assist the ophthalmologists in various minor surgical

The Research Assistant, Wagers Lab (Leo Wang, MD, PhD and Amy Wagers, PhD) will assist with ongoing
experiments aimed at investigating hematopoietic stem cell function, development, and malignant
transformation. He or she will be supervised, but will be expected to perform experiments
independently. The research assistant will be expected to be proficient in molecular biology techniques,
flow cytometry, histology, mammalian cell culture, and animal studies. Responsibilities will also include
maintenance of mouse colonies, genotyping of mouse strains, and assistance with cell transplantation
and engraftment experiments in mice.
Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree; concentration in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related discipline
preferred; MA or MS in these areas will also be considered
-Significant previous undergraduate or post-graduate lab experience, particularly with animal

endocrine disorders, risk identification and reduction, and education. The Clinical Research Nurse

and submission of educational proposals, activity budgets, and educational grant request applications

The GM is the lead for proposal development, including coordinating course directors, faculty planners,

proposal development process. The GM directs the search for applicable funding sources and topics and

proposed, potential partnerships and funding.
Qualifications :
-Bachelor’s degree in business, education, communications, journalism or other relevant field.
-Minimum five years equivalent related experience in an academic or healthcare environment,
preferably in the continuing medical education area or an academic/research setting administering
pre/post award grants, or in an association or advocacy environment, or within the grants office or

Section Chief, Adult Diabetes (Physician)

Overview:
The Chief of the Section of Adult Diabetes is expected to provide exceptional scholarly, clinical, and
administrative leadership and to promote professional development of the faculty in the Section. This
person will work closely and collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer to help develop and
implement a strategic plan for the Section to further enhance the excellence of the Section consistent
with the overall goals of the Joslin Diabetes Center. In addition the Chief will be expected to facilitate
and enhance the integration of clinical research with care of patients with diabetes and foster scholarly
activity of the faculty in the Section.
The Adult Diabetes Section of the Joslin Diabetes Center provides care for more than 12,000 patients
annually. More than 30 physicians (full- and part-time), 4 Nurse Practitioners and 14 Diabetes Educators

of unique education and treatment programs are also offered to patients. These include a 4 day
intensive "diabetes tune up", called DOIT, weight management programs (Why WAIT and U-Turn), a
pregnancy program, a program for the elderly with diabetes, programs for patients using insulin pumps
and CGMS, and ethnic specific programs (Latino, Asian American)

Qualifications :
- M.D., Board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology.
- Sufficient seniority in the field of diabetes and endocrinology to be appointed Associate or Full
Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
- Recognized national or international clinical leader in diabetes.
- Possess a focus in one or more specific areas of clinical diabetes care and be prepared to identify and
implement modern approaches and new technologies that are appropriate to each of these areas.
- Have experience in one or more aspects of clinical research, such as clinical trials, health outcomes,
health services and/or translational research, and a record of publications in one or more of these areas.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, ability to interact with peers and staff, fiscal and operational aspects of
administrative responsibilities such as ensuring accountability in clinical and scholarly activities, staff
development, and budget management.
- Effective communication skills are needed to share information and influence other section heads and
internal/external colleagues as well as to mentor and develop medical staff, fellows and students.
- Be articulate both verbally and in writing with regard to clinical diabetes care.
- Have experience, expertise and interest in the use, continuous improvement and potential of an
electronic medical record.
Senior Research Assistant (iPS Core)

Overview:
The Senior Research Assistant, under general supervision of the iPS core facility Directors, carries out
independently the daily activities of the core facility.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology or related field.
- Minimum 1 year of experience preferably with iPS cells
- Previous experience with cell cultures and sterile laboratory technique is required.
- Good organizational and record keeping skills and excellent attention to detail are an essential
component of this position.
- Ability to work pro-actively and in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Some weekend
flexibility will be required.
- Computer experience is desirable.
