This involves providing leadership to ensure a happy, caring and secure environment for the service user, together with a well-structured programme of leisure activities, and social skills training for each individual, in accordance with the values of the Autism Together. To actively promote an autism specific culture by ensuring that the work practices, environment, communication aids and structures are in place to support the individual needs of service users. To deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager. Responsible to: Firstly, the Registered Manager and the Quality & Development Manager. The post holder is ultimately responsible to the Director of Operations and the Chief Executive. Responsible for: Deputy Team Leaders, Support Workers, Bank Staff Support Workers in liaison with the Registered Manager, Service Users and their environment. Relationships: To establish and maintain good relationships with all employees and service users of the organisation. Location: You will be based in Wrexham but you may be required to work at any location within the organisation. Physical Conditions: Work is performed in standing and sitting positions. The work is undertaken indoors and outdoors. You will be required to work nights and/or sleep in duties on a rota basis and be involved in taking small groups of service users for short breaks/holidays, as and when requested. The post holder will be required to work on a rota basis, including weekends. Main Purpose of the Post: 3/8/2016 HR Department Following discussions with the Registered Manager, to lead and direct Support Workers to ensure a high standard of care and support for all service in accordance with the national care standards requirements. To actively promote the development of autism specific techniques and approaches relevant to the individual needs of service users. To safely dispense medication, and ensure the smooth running of service delivery and that there is continuity of care between shifts and Support Workers. The average working week is thirty-seven and a half hours, on a rota basis, including weekends. The Team Leader will be part of a team, under the direction and supervision of the Registered Manager. He/she will be responsible for the health, welfare and emotional development of the service user within the organisation. (1) National Care Standards The Team Leader will be expected to promote the requirements of the national minimum standards to all team members and will ensure that there are up to date systems in place to ensure the following: To continuously monitor and record the progress of their service users. To ensure that up to date person centred plans, risk assessments and behaviour management plans are in place for each service user. To ensure that support workers are aware of the autism specific requirements of each individual service user and that best practice is properly implemented and followed. To ensure that all critical incidents are properly and promptly recorded and any legal notifications are made in conjunction with the Registered Manager. To collate information, written and verbal, for use in Annual/ 6 Month Reviews. To organise Review Meetings and subsequent Annual/ 6 Month Reviews with involved parties. To update Annual/ 6 Monthly Reviews, and monitor the agreed aims and objectives. To ensure the Annual/ 6 Month Review forms are distributed to those on the circulation list. To ensure the highest standard of physical and emotional well being of service users. To be sensitive and aware of the need for good relationships and communications with relatives, guardians or advocates of the service user. 3/8/2016 HR Department In the absence of the Registered Manager, to host visits by authorised visitors from the Care Quality Commission, commissioners and other health or social care professionals and work in a profession manner with them. relevant (2) Staff Management In conjunction with the Registered Manager to take responsibility for the smooth running of the team of support workers. This will include: Delegating tasks to the staff team to maintain and ensure a high standard of service user care and training. Ensuring that all staff incorporate the values of the Autism Together into their daily work with service user. Ensuring that the service user’s home is maintained in a clean and tidy manner. Setting objective for Deputy Team Leaders and support workers ensuring that regular supervisions are held to monitor care and autism practice. Enter into discussion and advise the Registered Manager, Quality & Development Manager, and the Director of Client Services about any member of staff who are not undertaking their role as outlined in their Job Descriptions and any breaches of the organisation’s internal policies, procedures and regulations. (3) Service User Matters The Team Leader will ensure that support workers promote the self-care and independence skills of the service user’ within the organisation. The Team Leader will be expected to monitor the progress or otherwise of service user, and make necessary reports within the service user' individual files. He or she will be asked to submit written information on service users, for use at Reviews. The Team Leader will be responsible for the care and storage of service user’ clothing and personal possessions, and their room(s). The Team Leader will encourage and maintain, a high standard of personal appearance for service users; placing special emphasis on personal hygiene, including teeth cleaning, nail cutting, hair care, etc. 3/8/2016 HR Department Ensure service users are appropriately escorted to outside agencies for medical treatment and that appropriate and relevant information about the service users is made available. (4) The Team Leader will report to the Registered Manager, Quality & Development Manager or the Director of Operations, any problems regarding behaviour, health, and general welfare of the service user. Under the guidance of the Registered Manager, he/she will ensure that adequate and appropriate leisure time activities are available for the service user within the organisation. The Team Leader will be expected to encourage and participate at social functions, i.e. Youth Clubs, Recreation Centres, etc. He/she will be asked to monitor the interaction with other groups, and see that a level of socially acceptable behaviour is constantly applied. To maintain a high level of professional practice and confidentiality as befits a member of a senior team. The Team Leader will be expected to attend and contribute to Case Reviews, both as part of role development, and to further their knowledge of good care practice. From time to time, the Team Leader will be asked to liaise with external agencies and/or parents, to establish the best interests of the service user. Training (5) (6) The Team Leader will be expected to be involved in staff training, when appropriate, and will ensure that support staff attend any training provided and required. Budget Control & Administration To ensure that the unit has its financial allocation and service user personal allowance on a weekly basis. To ensure that clear records are kept for all financial transactions and that receipts are sent promptly to the Finance Department. To ensure by example and by the management of staff that the organisation’s resources e.g. equipment, furniture, provisions, utilities are cost effective and are being handled with respect. Health & Safety The Team Leader will be expected to record his/her observations on all aspects of service behaviour in the appropriate format. Ensuring that service user uses vocational and domestic equipment in a correct and safe manner. Ensure, risk assessments are created implemented and reviewed. Reporting to the Maintenance Department any necessary repairs or renewals in both the equipment and structure of the building. The storing of all toxic substances in a safe manner. Organising the collection of soiled linen and clothing, and laundering them in the appropriate way, when necessary. Additional Duties Any leave periods must not be taken at the same time as the Registered Manager or the Deputy Team Leader. The Team Leader will be expected to undertake, any other duties, which may, from time be specified by the Chief Executive, or in his or her absence, the Director of Operations Where appropriate, to undertake staff training, conducive to personal role development. As with all posts, a high degree of confidentiality is expected at all times.
