My Name is Jacob
My name is Jacob and I’m alone in my house. My mum has gone, my dad has as well. In fact,
you could say everyone I ever knew has gone. I’m the only one left.
OK, I bet you want to know what happened. Well fine. It all started three days ago. I was
walking to school. ”Hey Sarah” I said. Sarah had bright blonde hair with blue eyes. “Where’s
Fred?” I wondered.
“Oh, I almost forgot. He signed up for volleyball. He’s at training right now, can’t miss him, got
to go” Sarah said while running off into the distance.
“Volleyball huh. Lame. Oh, wait Sarah” I muttered. URRRR! Why won’t I tell her?
I angrily kicked the pole and then something really weird happened. My foot went through the
pole. It looked like water that didn’t stop splashing but it wasn’t blue. It was red, pink, yellow,
green and purple and my hand didn’t come out the other side. I walked in and I really wish I
hadn’t, but I had walked into…. THE UNDERWORLD!
It was the opposite of my world. It was gloomy and the trees were burnt and everyone was Goth!
The funny thing is… I walked to school and Fred won the scratch match… and Sarah was happy.
Too bad I’m in the underworld so every thing is opposite and so really, Fred lost and Sarah was
sad. After exploring I went to my house – I thought my mum and dad would be home because
they never went out. But I’m in the underworld so they’re probably out all the time. I snuck
upstairs into my room and I find a guy in there!
“Hey what ya doin in my room - get out you punk or you’ll be sorry” yelled the guy - Underworld
(U) Jacob.
(I should have known I like never speak slang). ”What do you mean this is your room - with
that being my tooth mark and coffee stain on the wall”? I said confusedly
The guy got a knife and out I ran. He was gaining on me. I quickly escaped out the house. I
slammed the rusty door and I heard people coming. It was mum and dad, I didn’t know what to

do, but before I could move, a knife went through the door. It was inches from hitting me. I
hated this place and I ran like mad. Mum and dad saw me and then U Jacob came out and started
to chase me and his mum and dad followed! The only problem was I didn’t know where to go. I
needed a safe place and fast!
Then I noticed they had stopped chasing me, but why? Then I noticed that there were people in
white robes with curly mustaches. “Come with us” one of the strangers said in a deep mysterious
voice. I ran - like my mum says, “don’t go with strangers”. One of the strangers teleported in
front of me, then they did something - I’m not sure what because they put me to sleep.
Somehow, several minutes later, I woke up in a big white room (I was getting really confused as
everyone is Goth but they were wearing white?) The word ‘sages’ was all over the walls.
Surprisingly after one of them spoke. He said his name was Zafrock and he was the leader of the
so-called sages. He explained that each sage could do something special but not like making fire
come out of his hand. There were five sages. Zafrock the leader could teleport, another could
slow down time, his friend could shape shift, the hyper guy could fly and the last one could go
under water for as long as he wanted! But you see, without powers they’re as dumb as
chipmunks.
They don’t even know how to turn computers on, let alone know what they are. They said a man
called Fredrick had immobilized their powers and now they were apparently I am the random
one! (Out of twelve billion people in the world, just my luck).
“How am I meant to defeat this guy if he has powers or whatever? Am I supposed to ask him
“would you let me kill you?” I doubt that would work very well. “What do I do?” I said
sarcastically.
“I don’t know. Stab him in the heart with a sword or something. That usually works” Zafrock
suggested.

“So where can I get a sword?” I asked.
“Oh yeah, there’s one at Marryan Street that comes off of Dawn Avenue. It’s about 2000km
away,” Zafrock explained.
“Then how the hell am I meant to get there”?! I yelled.
“Stop your whining and take my Mercedes and before you go, have a sleep. You only have three
days to defeat him or the terrible will happen” said Zafrock.
“I can’t drive, I’M ONLY 12”! I screamed.
“What terrible things?” I asked.
I looked around but he had gone and so had all the other sages (probably some stupid sage code).
I then went to bed (end of day 1). When I woke up I went outside and got into the Mercedes.
Now there was a big red button in the middle of the steering wheel and I didn’t see any cars on
the road. I pressed the button hoping for autopilot except it started to fly up (flying cars - real
original, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that already in a movie). After flying around and crashing into
so many people I saw a gate. It was all shiny. I went closer to see what it said. The sign on the
gate read, ‘The Legendary Gateway to the Real World’. I drove down, jumped out and tried to
get through the gate but then a sage came out of nowhere and said, “I am the sage, messenger.
Sorry but you can’t leave. This gate will remain closed until your quest is over because the sages
may have not told you but I’m also the guardian of the gate. While their powers were
immobilized. I was in the real world watching you and set the portal there for you to fall through.
You see, the real quest is to stop Fredrick from destroying your world and extending the
underworld by knocking out half of the population. So you see you are the random one” the sage
messenger told me.
Then Fredrick disappeared into thin air. I touched the gate and two ogres with blades appeared.
I think the messenger had the power to summon creatures. Then I wondered why couldn’t he
defeat this guy? One of the ogres spoke “by the way I can talk through my summoned creatures

but I can’t defeat him if he knows I still have powers as he will immobilize them” the
ogre/messenger explained.
I hopped back into the Mercedes and flew around and finally saw Dawn Street, so I parked the
Mercedes. I walked around for a while and found Marryan Street. I could see a lot of people over
there and so I went to see what all the commotion was about. It was at Marryan Park and there
was a big pestle (a stone which holds a precious sword which is extremely difficult to pull out),
and everyone was lining up (lining up awwwwwwwww what a drag!) I didn’t bother to go in the
line because I was busy laughing at so many people who had tried to get the sword out of the
pestle. Even the people with the biggest muscles failed. Then they turned around to me and said
“if you’re so good why don’t you get it out? Where’s your muscles, this will be funny” said the
mob.
(But they had no clue there was a bomb right over in the corner of the park. Don’t ask me why
it’s there).
So I said, “Fine” and I went over and put the bomb in front of the pestle. It worked! The pestle
blew up. Unfortunately so did the sword. The crowd went mad and threw buckets full of
tomatoes at me. I went back to the Mercedes and went to the sage place to find another sword
and to have a shower from all these tomatoes that got thrown at me for blowing up the sword. I
went in - there were no sages but there was a shower so after having a nice cold shower I went to
sleep. (End of day 2)
In the morning I slowly stretched then sprang out of bed and drove/flew to the legendary gateway
to the real world and asked the ogre/messenger if he knew where the sages were. They didn’t
speak. I found a mobile phone on the ground and picked it up. It had the numbers of all the sages
programmed into it (sometimes I wonder do they purposely do this to annoy me?) I called
Zafrock and he said “Barrown Street that comes off of Scepter Street” and then he hung up. Well

I was confused why he had hung up so quickly but I went to that street and there was a pestle in
the middle of the graveyard for some reason. I liked the other one better but this one had no line
of people trying their luck at removing the sword at all. I was the only one there. So I started
pulling the sword out of the pestle but I didn’t notice there was a skeleton walking closer and
closer to me. I finally pulled the sword out but it accidentally swung back behind me and I
chopped the skeleton’s head off. I apologised and walked off while other skeletons were slowly
chasing me. They were so slow they weren’t a threat. It was kinda funny when they tried to catch
up to me but when the other one snuck up on me that wasn’t funny. After I had some laughs I left
and called Zafrock on the mobile phone because I had forgotten to ask him where this annoying
freak Fredrick lived anyway. I bellowed out, but there was no answer.
Now I was getting worried as he had only had a really quick conversation with me before and
now there was no answer. Nothing! I called the messenger but all I could hear was this ‘Grrrr err
arruh help get off of me’ then the phone disconnected. By now I knew the sages were in danger
and so was the world. I wanted to help but who could I ask? I went to the Legendary Gateway to
the Real World and the ogres had disappeared. I could have left but I didn’t. I had to defeat
Fredrick to save my world. I knew I didn’t have much time because 2 days had passed and it was
midday. But where the heck would I find out where he lives?
I went back to the spot where I blew up the pestle and there was a big treasure box instead of the
pestle and a load of people were surrounding it. I heard people screaming really loudly “has
anyone got a key?” I came down to see and people recognised me. They said, “Hey, it’s the kid
who blew up the sword. Let me guess, you came down here to also blow up the chest.
Well it’s not going to happen” the people threatened.
“I’m not here to blow up your stupid chest. I was only looking,” I said.
“Unless you have a key get out of here” the people squirmed.

Then I felt something appear in my pocket. It was a key. I took the key out of my pocket and
went to see if it fitted the chest. It did. I turned the key and then the chest opened. Inside were
bow and arrows, (lucky I took archery lessons) fireworks, matches, sword cover and a note from
Zafrock. The note said, Dear Jacob, I hope these items help you to help me as and the sages and I
are in custody of Fredrick who lives in Neptune, not the planet, but the village left of Karamu
Street. Please, time is running out you must save us. Yours Zafrock.
I ran really fast and jumped in the car, flew up and sped through traffic. Soon there were cops on
my tail and I was swerving through the traffic. I had lost the 2 cop cars - shortly after 2 more
turned up but I didn’t have time to stop. The deadline of 12.00 pm was fast approaching and then
it would be all over. It was then that I realised what the bow and arrows were for. I aimed and
popped the tyres of the cop cars. I got two very good shots straight at the tyres. One car was
down before he had time to call back-up. I shot the second cop’s tyre and he spun out of control
with the radio falling out of his hands. I did a quick u-turn and raced down and caught the radio,
shot the other cop’s tyre, causing him to go down and then I spoke into the radio saying
“everything’s fine. We’ve caught him and I will bring him back to the station shortly.” I threw
the radio away and it hit the ground and broke into lots of pieces.
(9:00pm). Now that I’ve got the cops off my back I got to Neptune Village more easily. When I
got there I jumped out and didn’t bother to park the Mercedes. Then I saw Fredrick’s house with
a sign saying Fredrick’s house in the front. I barged in and there he was. I settled down and
withdrew my sword from my cover and Fredrick went down on his knees. I then saw
Sarah and all the sages in cages with dynamite connected to their cages. At this point I realised
that Fredrick was on the ground so I lit the fireworks, which blinded him for a few seconds. I
stuck my sword out to my side and ran across and around the room and carefully cut the rope that
attaches the dynamite to the bars of the cages. They were safe for now but they are still not free.

(10:00). Fredrick got his vision back and then come up behind me and grabbed me. He put a
knife under my neck. I was scared but I kicked him in a spot that really hurts and I escaped.
That’s when he started to talk: “By the way my real name is Fred and that volleyball was a little
scam to capture Sarah to lure you here. But you see, if someone from the real world kills
someone from the underworld the real life person dies as well as the real world person. So you
will kill me and you will kill your best friend Fred, who you knew in reception. Now do you plan
to kill me?” Fred/Fredrick evilly laughed.
“Sorry I can’t kill Fred.” He was my best friend for, like, forever. I see him basically every day
URRRRRRR what do I do? I thought to myself.
(3 seconds to go). Just then he fired a magic spell called ‘the return spell’ at me
(2 seconds to go). I thrust my sword blindly and it stabbed him right in the heart
(1 second to go) the spell hit me and I was retuned back to my bedroom.
I explored but couldn’t find any one so I told that story to you. I haven’t been outside. I look
outside and nobody is there. There aren’t any buses, cars, taxis, or kids so I finally go outside to
see if there is anything there. I go to where the portal for the underworld was, but there is no
splashing stuff. I see my hand from the other side. So I walk into the wall of a building and I go
through it. I then look at myself and see that I’m a ghost. Fredrick probably killed me and
turned me into a ghost with that spell. So I saved the whole world and no-one knows. Now I’m
dead and what is Sarah and going to think? I have done my duty to the world by the looks of
things and I killed Fred. Why? It wasn’t fair. I killed and restored peace and I think it might be
my turn to just go away and leave things alone. Then suddenly I hear a voice. It was Fred as a
ghost! “You can’t go” Fred the ghost said. “Come with me. You can look at the town if you
want and we can spy on everyone. At least we’re not alone. We’re together forever man,
remember come on let’s have some fun.”
